Detroit Institute of the Arts spots by Julian Grey

I like the simplicity of these two new line-animation spots for the Detroit Institute of the Arts, which were made to help increase attendance at the museum. The animation is hand-drawn and composited in After Effects. They were directed by Julian Grey of Toronto’s Head Gear Animation. Check out both ads below:

Both ads were good. I liked the first one more though.

Same! I didn’t really understood the second one. But the first was very good.

The first spot really deserves a sequel. The DIA is an excellent museum. I used to visit it regularly back when I lived only a few blocks away from it back in the 1980s. Sadly, the rest of the area is still in pretty bad shape and I think that has more to do with the low attendance.

Oh heck yes!
The commercials are really very eye catching, and they keep this style all over the museum and the cultural center of Detroit throughout!
I am a student at The College For Creative Studies, which is literally right across the street from the DIA. (In fact, I can see it right now) As a student, I get free admission, and trust me, it’s worth it. The DIA needs more love, it’s got one of the best collections in the country, hands down.

really? i actually preferred the second spot. the design of both are great. the concept of the first one seems pretty played out. character walking through art museum “becomes” the styles of different artists. old as dirt (but with nice + simple execution). the second one is about being stumped, then going to the museum for inspiration. seems a tad more sincere to me. well done.

Thank you so much for sharing these, I live in the Detroit area and am very excited to see how the museum is promoting itself these days. They had a great re-opening last year after a very exstensive rennovation of the building. If you have a chance to go there I highly recommend it!
