those CG clips are, um, creepy.

Wow! The surreal aspects of this ad are so timely and appropriate when applied to Ron Paul himself. He’s got great ideas but he’s living in a cartoon reality. Perhaps Orville Redenbacher should be his running mate.

Even creepier than the CGI Orville Redenbacher.

I’m officially creeped out now.

It’s about missed opportunities…and floods…and, from those close-ups, maybe the Hall of Presidents. I doubt we’ll be getting any campaign spots this surreal out of McCain.

I won’t even count this as animation. It’s that same b*****t “psychological realism” Chris Landreth heaved upon us with his Ryan film that turns vibrant living people into the ugly lifeless zombies you see there.

Ron Paul deserves better than that (whether you support him or not).

With a million bucks and a non-CGI Ron Paul this would have been a masterpiece, but in the real world this is the best they could have done with the concept and the budget. I think it’s fantastic. It’s a real one-of-a-kind ad.

It reminds me of that ad with a CGI Martin Luther King Jr. where they digitally removed the massive crowds at the National Mall and removed the applause from the recording of his “I Have a Dream Speech.” I think the tag line had something to do with “improving clarity,” but it was a much derided ad. It also had a 360 degree turn around that looked really fake.

Although from what I remember, it looked a hell of a lot more authentic than that Ron Paul campaign ad.

This is the best campaign ad I’ve ever seen. I hate creepy CG people as much as the next guy, but this is something I’m willing to swallow on concept alone. The creators of this ad should be commended for stepping outside the weathered box of campaign ad cliches and making something so compelling and clear.

Great ad, despite some CG-creepiness. Was it actually aired anywhere, though?

I disagree with Mr. Germain’s “b*****t “psychological realism” comment. I hope we’ll see more things like “Ryan”.

Despite his face barely moving when he talked, that was a pretty damn epic commercial.

I have to say, I considered it “creepy cool.” I think it would have been better had they green-screened & motion-captured Paul, then worked the CG around him. In other words, I’d have preferred Roger Rabbit to Orville Redenbacher. :)

Lincoln at Disneyland was more alive than the character in this commercial. Why can’t they figure out how to focus the eyes? It’s the curse of cgi and makes it unpalatable.

These unsolicited, fan-produced campaign spots are going to be the bane of 2nd-tier candidates everywhere.

I think if your product is a human being, your presentation of him and his ideas needs to be flawless. Any misfire distracts from your message and becomes the message itself.

I am fascinated by this video and watch it over and over. I love the way his hair moves when the dollar bills fly around and the way he moves through water and stands next to the Founding Fathers. I love the loud cheers and the masses of people waving flags and marching. There’s just something really majestic about this and the music is gorgeous. I love it!

Then again, I love Ron Paul… I chipped in to have this aired.

With the addition of a few elements and one switchout of a human head, this could make a strong anti-Alzheimer’s spot starring John McCain, as he follows the Sunnis as they become Shias, then airborne insects, until they morph into Joe Leiberman telling him what he meant to say.
