Don't expect character depth or revolutionary plot twists, but the story is quite solid anyway, even though it doesn't go too far away from the premise. Expect sex and violence, instead. And some scenes are pretty well made, especially the action ones. Even the 2D and 3D mixed scenes won't hurt your eyes. On the other hand, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time IS the best anime of 2006, a very fine piece of animation. It's not visually stunning as Paprika or Tekkon Kinkurito, but its storytelling is first class and some of the backgrounds are just amazing. Another great work from the guys at Madhouse. I downloaded this movie a few months ago off of bit torrent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The content may put some off (a dystopian future where the main source of fuel is human poo), it doesn't get over-the-top disgusting like what you would typically see on Adult Swim, but the animation is simply superb! Honestly, if you wanna see contemporary 2d feature DONE RIGHT, this is it. There's a tiny spot of CG thrown in, but it's done only to match the hand drawn artwork and doesn't overshadow it. I'm sooo jealous that we will most likely never see any American-made 2d film of this quality ever again... or even one with non family friendly content. YES! Just my personality quirk, you might have a different subject that totally repulses you. But I feel differently about "Aachi and Ssipak". I'm instead impressed by the plot, very inspired. After all, feces is an alternative fuel people really are looking at, because it's renewable. But this movie has made some insights as to how that idea might work that didn't occur to me. Very thought provoking.
