WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF ARTISTIC ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED, AND FROM WHO?
“I definitely can say the name Yuko Shimizu. She was my adviser when I worked on my thesis during my second year at SVA. It will be hard to mention every single thing that I have learned from her. Maybe I can narrow it down to two things One is to think about how much you can connect to the story, which means how much you can be sincere to the content. So I always try to see how much I can be myself or take challenges; being safe or staying the same can be dangerous for artists in the beginning. The second thing is to remember the idea that I am running a small business. There are so many ways to promote yourself. Keeping your website, blog, or social networking professional is really important. Yuko is a hugely respectable artist. Though I can’t be perfect as she is, there are certain ways to keep my business strong that makes me feel comfortable. So I think you have to find a good way to build and run your business.”
