I’ve known about these for years, I believe they were produced in Italy. They are so horrendous in their execution I simply haven’t had the heart to add them to my collection. Hippity looks like a monkey.

Maybe that’s the point. You have to drink to make them look good. Especially that Honey one. Yeesh!

Perhaps they were only intended to be looked at AFTER you finish a few drinks in them. poor ugly glasses.

There is also a Sylvester and a Tweety in this set (I have the Sylvester still uncorked). I believe each character contains a different type of liqueur. At least a portion of this set was also produced in much larger versions as well…in case there wasn’t enough in the smaller bottles to make you forgot the bad character designs.

But seriously is anyone that surprised by bad character design in licensed looney tunes products from the 70’s? Stuffed characters in particular seemed based on a verbal description at best. Now, part of the charm is the ugliness of this sort of stuff. Back then, it was: what the @&#$! is this thing!

I’m guessing that whoever painted the black details on these hit the liquor pretty hard before they started. Some of the worst ceramics I’ve ever seen.

Its a shame that they only had those four versions. Hippity Hops isn’t a terrible beer, but Tequi E. la Coyote and Bugs Brandy are barely drinkable. The true cartoon sommelier looks out for an Elmerlot Fudd, while connoisseurs of liquor will want to try Michigan J. Vodka, Speedy Gon-saké or Marvin’s Mars Gin.

However, D’absinthe Duck was just a poor idea all around.

As you’ll see, many other unusual characters were produced in this line too including Egghead, Pete Puma, The Dodo, Conrad and a bunch of others.

Dapper Jim, there *WAS* some nice cartoon merchandising going on in the 60’s but not for Looney Tunes characters. I have cool items from the 40’s and 50’s but by the time the 60’s hit, there was just zero quality control. Don’t even get me started on the garbage that was produced in the 70’s…oh…wait, these bottles are from the 70’s!!!
