San Diego, CA: The Chuck Jones Gallery, located in the historical center of the city at 232 Fifth Avenue, announced today their schedule of artist appearances and exhibits during International Comic Con, July 21-24.

Marvel and DC Comics Super-Artist Simone Bianchi will be feted with a reception on Thursday, July 21 st from 7 to 10 PM . Bianchi is one of the new breed of Marvel Comic whose work has revolutionized the way the Marvel characters look. Known for his use of watercolor half-tones and ink washes, Bianchi’s non-traditional comic book drawing style has catapulted him to the heights of the comic book world. This reception for the artist will feature his most recent work on paper and canvas from both DC Comics and Marvel. The gallery will be exhibiting two exclusive editions from Bianchi, “The Call of the Knights” and “Batman.” Bianchi will be dedicating artwork purchased at the exhibit.

On Friday, July 22 nd , the Gallery will host an open house and reception for the Art of Ralph Bakshi , with his son, animation director and producer, Edward, as our special guest, from 7 to 10 PM. Bakshi, the producer, director, writer and animator of such ground-breaking animated films as Fritz the Cat, Coonskins, Wizards, and The Lord of the Rings is regarded by critics and collectors as one of the modern giants of animation. The exhibition will feature not only original production art from a variety of his films, but also his most recent mixed media constructions, drawings and paintings. Ralph Bakshi will be signing dedication cards for artwork purchased during the exhibition.

Star Wars artist Randy Martinez will be honored with an exhibition and reception on Saturday, July 23 rd from 6 to 9 PM . Known for his compelling portrayals of the landmark George Lucas film series, Martinez has also drawn over 10,000 sketch cards for Topps Trading Cards for such brands as, Lord of the Rings, Hero, Terminator, Marvel Comics as well as Star Wars. Martinez, along with his co-author, Denise Vasquez, will be premiering his latest book, Sketch Card Mania, and will offer a demonstration of how-to create your own sketch cards. Martinez will be dedicating artwork purchased at this event and he and Denise Vasquez will sign their most recent book.

Throughout the run of Comic Con (July 21-24) the art of Henry Scarpelli will be on view in the gallery. Scarpelli, best known for his work on the Archie Comic Strips (both as writer and artist), was also the creator of the syndicated one-panel cartoon TV Tee Hees and at Dell Publishing the artist behind many of their comic books based on TV shows such as, The Beverly Hillbillies and Hogan’s Heroes.
