June 14, 2011 — Chicago, Ill. It’s time to play the music; It’s time to light the lights; It’s time to meet the Muppets on the…Threadless Design Challenge. Threadless, the international community-driven design platform, is bringing a new T-shirt design challenge to its community of 1.5 million members to create a design that celebrates friendship. The chosen design is a precursor to the debut of Disney’s new feature film, The Muppets, coming to U.S. theaters in November 2011.

Designers can gain inspiration from the decades-long friendship of The Muppets. After more than 30 years of delivering smiles and laughter to the world, Kermit the Frog is still leading the way; Miss Piggy is still close by his side (some may say too close) and as glamorous as ever; Animal still loves his drums and the ladies; Fozzie Bear still dreams of being the world’s greatest stand-up comic bear; Gonzo is still performing his death-defying stunts; and The Electric Mayhem Band’s funky soul tracks have been serving as the soundtrack through it all.

The chosen designer will receive $2500 cash, a $250 Threadless gift certificate and a $250 set of collectible statues from Disney Traditions, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear, designed by Jim Shore. The designer will also receive an autographed copy of the upcoming album MUPPETS: The Green Album along with an autographed version of the chosen T-shirt design framed together with an autographed photo of the Muppets.

The Muppets T-shirt Design Challenge is open for submission now, and chosen designs will be announced on June 27, 2011. To submit a design or view current submissions, visithttp://disney.threadless.com/themuppets.

The design challenge is hosted on Threadless Atrium, which launched in early 2011 to enable other organizations to harness the power of community-based design while bringing the Threadless community new opportunities to impact the creative design of products across industries.
