I got it for Christmas. In a nutshell… The pictures are great. The text could have been a lot better. But who buys a book like this for the text?

Oh, I dunno, I found the historical grouding fascinating. To think that “the Five Little Firemen” were considered part of an early civics lesson. And check out the politically incorrect version of “To Market, To Market.”

They did go into detail on the artist’s media, methods, sketches, etc. but not so much on the economics — considering how long some of those pieces took to paint, how did the artist make a living?

I think it’s absolutely great! A MUST-have.

did they go into how the powers that be and bad management sent the business into bankruptcy where Random House was able to come in and buy up the scraps?

that was sad times……

I’ll have to add it to my wish-list.
