NICKTOONS on Page Six

Move over Paris and Britney. I’ve made The New York Post Page Six today.

Nothing scandalous. Just a clever plug for the new coffee table art book, Not Just Cartoons, Nicktoons!. It was my sincere pleasure to interview all the creators of Nicktoon series for this project, and the book turned out to be quite a visual feast. You’ll find it at your local bookshop this week. It’ll be easy to spot – It’s the one with a dust jacket covered in green slime.

Which ones of their shows does it include? Guess I’ll have to look into it myself.

“It’ll be easy to spot – It’s the one with a dust jacket covered in green slime.”

For a second I misread the sentence as “It’s the one with a green jacket covered in dust.”

Wow, this book looks very complete.
I may be biased, since I grew up with many of these shows, but I’m pretty excited about it.
For me, it’s both a look at contemporary animation, and a walk down memory lane. Upon showing this book to my friends, I’m sure there will be much reminiscing.

I was not an intern, I was acutally involved with production for three years as an Animation Timer/Director. Most people have seen my name on 95 of 120 episodes of CATDOG. I also was assigned to the OH YEAH, CARTOONS unit, and also worked in 12 of the first season of DORA. Having been in the “trenches,” I’d be interested to see
this overview.

Wow, this looks interesting. I wish we could see a few pages though. I still don’t have much of an idea of whats inside.

random question: is Doug discussed at all? considering Nick no longer has the rights to him?

Yes, he’s has his own section, as a matter of fact.

Invader Zim? Fook yes. Though I’d love me some yummy MLAATR art too.

Could somebody post some excerpts? Or a scans or so? Or point me towards a review? I needs me some details!

As long as we’re at it, did Jhonen Vasquez talk about the animated projects he refused, and why? I recall him mentioning something in an interview somewhere…

I work at Barnes & Noble and saw this book the other day on one of the tables. Then I saw it was written by Jerry Beck! I was JUST going through your other book “Animation Art” the other day. That is a phenomenal book. I cannot wait to read the Nicktoons book. I was very excited to see the chapter on “Avatar.” Thanks, Jerry! It looks like you’ve done another phenomenal job!

I hope people don’t buy this hoping for a great deal of ZIM material. From what I recall seeing, it’s just two pages of cursory stuff without much text of note on the show. Congrats on the thing finally getting on shelves, Jerry!
