‘Na Ni Nu Ne No No’ by Manabu Himeda

Hey Nu! Hey You! We have to be “Na Ni Ne No” without you! Hey Nu. Directed by Manabu Himeda.

  • James VanDam

Japan always fascinates me with their duality. *Genie scene from Aladdin* PHENOMENAL traditional values, discipline, manners, and reservation!!! *squeaky voice* Little bit of off-the-wall insanity. Can’t blame the artists of Japan though, with all that pressure to conform to a very rigid society, it’s no wonder many of them make things that boggle the imagination.

  • Hahaha that’s wonderful. Reminds me of those sesame street animations about letters or numbers.

  • KW

How do people come up with this stuff?

    • AmidAmidi

It’s creativity; it’s what animation is capable of. Perhaps we should be asking why most commercial animation is so bland when the art form has the capacity for such rich, expressive visual concepts.

      • We ask ourselves that every day!

      • KW

I’d like to know the very beginnings of this idea or a lot of the more “weird/odd” things in animation. What was the germ of the idea and how it evolved to its final point.

  • Really cute! and its even more fun if you speak japanese, there are a a couple of word puns I don’t think you would understand otherwise. Seems Like a segment from a kids cartoon about learning the alphabet :) (na ni nu ne no is a sequence in the japanese alphabet)

Saw this at Ottawa a couple years ago. It remains one of my all-time favorite films from the festival. :)
