Cartoon Culture: A WB Store in China
April 30, 2008 7:00 am
Nostalgic for a Looney Tunes fix? Need a new Scooby Doo tumbler or a Tweety and Sylvester bookend? Brew reader Michael Levine and his wife just got back from traveling in Hong Kong. In Macau they stumbled upon an actual - gasp! - Warner Bros. Studio Store! Says Michael: “I thought the pics of Chinese landmarks with Bugs and Tweety on them would interest you. I guess images of historic areas with Looney Tunes characters on it, are what people want – ?.” |
Wow, If you go to his site and look at the shot of the store front, there’s a banner above the store name that looks something like a cloisonne tapestry. The tiny LT silhouettes hidden in there are pretty cool-looking, but then they had to ruin it by slapping style guide art all over it. I understand why they exist, but style guides really suck all the fun out of merchandising.
Thanks for sharing, Michael!
When’s the next plane to China take off, Jerry?
Wait a sec- I thought all of the Warner Bros Stores closed in 2001!- What gives?
“I guess images of historic areas with Looney Tunes characters on it, are what people want – ?.”
Absolutely. And just tell me when I can get a picture of Yosemite Sam at Hiroshima.
Steve Gattuso – Imagine Yosemite Sam riding a warhead like a horse, ala Slim Pickens in Dr Strangelove, Yahhhhhooooooo!
