“Green SpongeBob” Attempts to Rob 7-Eleven

The economy is rough in the United States–even for cartoon characters. Above is surveillance footage from earlier this week in San Diego when Gumby attempted to rob a 7-Eleven. Gumby didn’t get away with any money, but that’s not the saddest detail of the story: the clerk didn’t recognize Art Clokey’s classic stop motion creation and described him to the police as a “green SpongeBob SquarePants.” With such a lack of name recognition amongst the general public, no wonder he’s hard up for cash. Police are currently offering a $1,000 reward, which means Gumby may be spending some time in the pokey.

Gumby’s bump is missing on the top.

Damn u, Amid. I just did a spit-take reading the last “sentence!”

      It was needed!

I’ve never heard that version of the Gumby song, and I hope I never have to hear it again. I proudly sang the original Gumby song as I showed my Gumby and Pokey figures during show-and-tell in 3rd grade (’82-83).

I often feel sad for the youth of today, then I run across one that wears a Ramones shirt for reasons other than “irony” or knows cartoons and animation from before the 80′s and I think to myself, “these kids might be OK”

      I try to have hope.

Gumby isn’t everywhere, known to everyone?
    That’s painful to contemplate.

  • Joe

    I’m Gumby dammit!

Looks like Gumby was desperate to pay for Pokey’s leg surgery. XD

    SPOILER ALERT
Worse still, APOLLO 18 stole their antagonist from this Gumby short:

‘He can even walk through walls if you want him tooooo….’ umm but he used the automatic doors?

Well guess those comments about Moral Orel being part of Anonymous are not rumors after all.

  • Robert Schaad

Apparently, the clerk was a blockhead.

I’ve just heard that on my local news station’s 11:00 news an hour ago, only that they said at first as some green character. I thought at first the disguise is Incredible Hulk before the details were mentioned.

Ooooh I remember watching Gumby when I was a kid. What a nostalgia moment! Thanks random maniac thief, for giving me back a nice childhood memory. :D

My 9-year old daughter’s plush Pokey is one of her favorite stuffed animals (along with her Yoda), so there is still hope for the youth of today! Then again, her dad is one who frequents animation sites so she’s probably not the norm.

This is worse than when Koko the clown went back to rehab.

The clerk probably knew who Gumby was. It just didn’t REGISTER with him at the moment!

    Ha-rumph!

  • James Cimarusti

All the clerk had to do was give Gumby a Slurpee and the cops could have come and just picked him up ;)

“Above is surveillance footage from earlier this week in San Diego when Gumby attempted to rob a 7-Eleven.”

And yet, not the weirdest sentence I’ve read today.

  • PJW

What? Maybe the police officer’s colorblind.

    *face palms*

It’s time for another Gumby adventure!

  • Justin

LOL, this is one of the funniest stories I’ve ever read!

  • James Cimarusti
