Live-Action Coyote vs. Roadrunner Fan Film

This live-action Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner fan film defies expectations and replaces the cartoon characters with human versions. It’s a faithful yet fresh take on Chuck Jones’s creations. The short was shot in Moab, Utah, and SoftImage XSI and After Effects were used.

    Too good to be true!

  • Impressive stuff!

  • S H

fun short, would have like to see it end when the rock fell in the first attempt maybe?

  • Chris Sobieniak

Very impressive! I actually laughed this time!

  • tomm

    that was class :)

  • Richard Gadd

    Thats a lot of fun!

  • Great gags, excellent timing, wonderful Stalling-esque music, and amazing production values. And a live action version of a cartoon NOT using CG versions of the characters, Hollywood should take note.

    • Chris Sobieniak

Hollywood needs to take a lot of notes, so I suggest a composition notebook!

  • BRILLIANT!!! It perfectly captures the spirit of the Roadrunner cartoons and looks FANTASTIC!

  • Oh man, the vacant look on that dude’s face. Fantastic!

  • Stephan

    [laughs and claps]

  • Awesome.

  • Love it!

  • … that … Was … AWESOME!

  • I felt embarrassed. Didn’t like it.
This only works in a cartoon.

    • davidbfain

Call me a purist but I agree.

    • Diego

      I didn’t like it either.

    • yep, i didn’t like it neither… but i have to say at least they try it

  • Emmett Goodman

Very impressive! I liked that a lot. Although, why didn’t Wiley wait for Rhodes to just stop and take a leak from drinking all that water?

    • Chris Sobieniak

OK, now you’ve ruined the illusion for me!

  • Adorable and awesome! The human Road Runner reminds me of the high-end Yaletown douchebags in my city… XD
Wonderful work. The gags were great, and the character acting was spot-on. More! MOAR

  • Kid

    That was pretty good.

  • Better than the cgi version. The timing was impeccable.

  • This is great! Say what is Mike Jittlov doing?

  • Josh

The music is terrible… competently written but very poorly executed, detracted from the experience for me. I think it would have been brilliant to use the existing audio from the classic cartoons – after all, there is no dialogue… why not?

    • Chris Sobieniak

I was of the opposite here. The music was perfect, and the sound quality nearly matches the sort of hissy monaural qualities we’ve came to appreciate these for years.

  • Randy Koger

I don’t know what I was expecting….something really really stupid and badly done, but that was incredibly fun and very well done!
Great timing, music, actors and effects. Worked extremely well. It was really fun and enjoyable!
Congrats to everyone that worked on it.

  • TraV

By the end of the rock bit I stopped seeing them as humans-playing-the-toons and saw them as the toons themselves. THAT WAS AMAZING

  • SJ

I’m mystified as to how in the world anyone could NOT like this. It looked great and was carefully crafted. Definitely a funny homage to the original.

  • Autumn

That was surprisingly well done. Very nice homage to the original.

  • Stephen Rhodes Treadwell

Very stupid! By the way the guy running didn’t look like me. My middle name is Rhodes.:-)

  • Stephen Rhodes Treadwell

I find it odd that Road Runner cartoons are so popular. Why would anyone get a kick out of watching a cartoon that never has much of a story behind it? Tom & Jerry is much much much much much much much much much much much much much much better!
