Lou Romano’s New Yorker Cover

New Yorker cover by Lou Romano

Congrats to Lou Romano who painted the cover for this week’s New Yorker. Various illustrators who work in animation, like Peter de Sève, have done New Yorker covers before, but could this be the first time a trained animation artist has done a cover in the mag’s eighty-plus year history? The New Yorker is also selling prints of Lou’s cover here.

(Thanks to Nate Pacheco for letting me know)

Fantastic! Lou Romano & The New Yorker are a perfect match! The Guggenheim on the right is a nice touch.

Quite possibly. Gary Baseman also comes to mind, but like de Seve, he was a freelance illustrator first. If this is indeed a first for animation, I’m bummed that the licenese plate doesn’t read A113.

Congrats to Lou on a fine piece of work -you make it look so easy!

Congratulations to him! Technically Chuck R., I don’t think Gary Baseman was trained as an animator. (Although I love Teacher’s Pet. It is sort of an underappreciated cartoon.)

…all in the same week as the premiere of “Ratatouille”, Romano’s star turn as voice of the ginger-haired chef!
