The Rent is Too Damn “Up”

Those who watched the New York state gubernatorial debate a few nights ago were treated to the awesomeness of candidate Jimmy McMillan (aka Papa Smurf) of the “Rent is Too Damn High” Party. That alone has little to do with animation, but remix Jimmy’s words with Pixar’s Up, like Joe Sabia did, and you get something magnificent.

    Oh god, that was beautiful.

    “Imovethatwerepresentpeoplewhocan’taffordtopaytheirrent. Once again, why?”

    “Why?”

“Da rent is Too. Damn. High.”

    *SLAM*

*Shrug* “The rent IS too damn high.”

I find curmudgeonly old men endlessly amusing, animated or otherwise.

  • Dan Spacik

    It doesn’t match.

Really it was beautiful but it reminded me of a question I had. With the housing bubble gone belly up and price of real estate corrected somewhat, was there also a correction in rent? Or are they still being soaked?

I suppose it would help if one gave a damn what happened in New York…

Mr. McMillan said in an interview on Tuesday that for at least the last decade, he had lived rent free. So free must be too damn high. The better message is get off your derriere and get a job, further your education or move where you can afford to live. That clip has no artistic merit whatsoever outside of Pixar’s fine work. Amid’s political agenda continues to pollute what used to be an enjoyable experience. Cartoon Brew has acquitred a bitter taste.
