A new stop-motion video from Yuval & Merav Nathan, directors of the fantastic Her Morning Elegance. Lose This Child (for Israeli alternative group, EatLiz) was animated on an actual beach with real sand, by four animators including musician Guy Ben Shetrit, guitarist for the band. This experimental music video for Oorutaichi’s “Hamihadarigeri” directed by Sojiro Kamatani defies easy description but it excites my senses as few other animated pieces I’ve seen recently. That’s because Kamatani packs enough visual ideas for a dozen animated shorts into his stream of conscious assault on orthodox visual sensibilities. UK-based Cyriak’s path to stardom has been an odd one. He made his name by becoming a master of one of the least glamorous yet most challenging forms of animation—the animated GIF. Today, he’s making music videos and commercials. His latest is this video for Eskmo’s “We Got More.” I’m continually impressed by his ability to create hypnotically recursive animated patterns using only the most trivial live-action footage. 7 Comments » posted in Music Videos, Cyriak, UK

Brooklyn-based filmmaker Jeff Scher created this mixed-media music video for Paul Simon’s “Getting Ready For Christmas Day.” The quirky assortment of visuals don’t match the rhythms of the song very well, but they do graphically complement Simon’s lyrics, which touch on subjects like the tough economy and American soldiers fighting overseas during the holidays. This cute music video, Keenan at Sea, was directed by David Cowles and Jeremy Galante for the band The Girls. The girls are a harp and ukulele duo, consisting of David’s daughter, Alison Cowles, and her buddy Mikaela Davis. They’ve been together for a little over a year now and are building a strong following in the Rochester, NY area. The video was put together in After Effects by Jeremy Galante, with some help on the design by Janis Dougherty. David Cowles designed the characters and did all the story boarding. |
