i notice a trend

Makes me want to see UP three or four extra times, hopefully to tell Hollywood that I want more of PIXAR’s output and not this. It will bring the kids in, but little else, I think. Although, Doris Roberts doing some Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon shtick may be worth seeing, once it’s out on STARZ.

All that motion blur really screwed with my eyes.

I don’t know if premises can belong to any era, but for some reason this “Aliens in the Attic” sounds like a late 70’s, early 80’s script that was just dusted off after being labeled as “stupid” or “already done” for years and years. The trailer reminds me of some kind of young adult novel hybrid…Goosebumps meets My Teacher is an Alien.

Is it just me?

Well there’s a movie I’ll never see. And a trailer I shouldn’t have watched.

I walked by a family walking past a Blockbuster store last evening. The little boy (a RL Bobby Hill, just to paint a picture) was very excited to see Paul Blart, Mall Cop, just out on DVD. The whole family was ecstatic at the prospect of seeing that movie, and they made plans to build their Friday around renting it.

I predict this Pearsons movie will do all right, if not actually hit. The family comedy genre is a hungry, hungry hippo that cannot be sated.

From time to time there are trailers that actually make me feel embarrassed when I watch them. I think we just saw all the (supposedly) funny parts this sad little movie has to offer.

This can’t be an Ashley Tisdale vehicle… if so they way miss the target market with this trailer… but after watching this I gotta wonder who then is the actual target audience… certainly not me… but I’m not the Tisdale market either…

What is this? I can’t hear or see anything because I’m too excited to see UP, you know, a REAL film.

Now I’m confused. I don’t know if I’m going to pay to see this one and sneak into that Disney Commando Hamster film or pay to see the Disney Commando Hamster film and sneak into this one.

Two good things about it: Doris Roberts doing slo-mo kung fu and someone (who is he?) doing the Curly shoulder spin!

It’s actually not the worst thing out. It was supposed to come out in the fall, tested amazingly, so the studio pulled it to make it a summer release. And the script was pretty funny. It’s probably on par with Gremlins… so not perfect, but a lot of fun. And alot of talented animators were on it also.

Looked funny, actually. Any movie that brings into reality Dorris Roberts doing a Street Fighter dragon punch, automatically redeems itself in my eyes.

This past Memorial Day weekend, I am… SO glad I didn’t see any film that would even have the slightest chance of playing this trailer (I saw Angels and Demons).

You’re right, it looks stupid…It remind me of Gremlins. How long ago was Gremlins made? And, why does that film look so much better? They should have used puppets.

I dunno - it looks like something my kids would really enjoy. It looks like it falls into the “mindless entertainment” category, and there’s certainly a place for that in my book.

It seems odd to complain that it’s not a completely CGI film. Did you really want to see the humans done with CGI? I can’t imagine that it would add anything that live action doesn’t already give.

I dislike the trailer though. I gives away way too much of the plot and punchlines. I feel like I’ve already watched the film.

I’ve seen the trailer weeks earlier before I went to “Night at the Smithsonian”, I agree, it looks silly. Obviously it’s another of Fox’s painful attempts to lure kids from their quality time with their families.

I suppose after the surprise success of “Chipmunks”, Fox and Regency started thinking of more family-friendly live-action money-makers. Speaking of “Chipmunks”, a 30-second teaser for the sequel has also hit the theaters with “Smithsonian”.

It seems as if Rhythm and Hues are getting recognized for their work for adding cartoonish CG characters, all starting with the live-action “Scooby-Doo” movies.

“Gremlins” was released 25 years ago in 1984 when it competed with “Beverly Hills Cop”, “Ghostbusters”, and “Indiana Jones” for the box office glory.

It’s not a total waste. The mind control is a fun idea, and the cinematography is solid.

I love people on sites who pan a movie before they’ve even see it, or hear from anybody else who has seen it. It’s almost like you don’t have anything else, in your pitiful lives to do. Oh yeah…

Many people worked their butts off, for almost 2 years, to make this movie - but it only takes 5 minutes for some goofball, safely tucked behind the safety of a faceless blog post, to spout off some nonsense pulled from beneath his nether regions to get the rest of you geeks to nod your stupid approvals, like the followers you are.

Sad.

Ashley Tisdale, “Teen Queen” might have been better off starring in a movie-length CGI version of the old Warner Brothers cartoon, “AN ITCH IN TIME”!! Okay, I won’t put down a film that I’ve never seen and probably don’t have any intention of seeing, and maybe there is someone connected with this film who is a rabid Bob Clampett cartoon fancier, thus the analogy above. Actually, if any director could goad Ashley Tisdale to do a movie-length CGI version of “AN ITCH IN TIME”, I’d probably see it just to watch the journey the busy little flea might take!

I’d say if there’s any smugness going on in the comments here, it’s not coming from Worker Bee.

The comments here (for the most part) aren’t about the trailer, they’re mostly snide presumptions about the worthiness of the movie… based on the trailer. From them, I’d guess that most commentators here also judge books by their covers.

It looks like one of those weird 80’s kids comedies, like Monster Squad or Mac & Me (shudder).

Btw Worker Bee, I think this trailer is a case in point for crap cinema. A trailers job is to sell the movie to you. Would you still see Transformers 2, even if it looked like a bucket of vomit, because those people worked hard to make that movie? If you pay to see that movie, are you really supporting those people who worked on it, or do you think maybe instead you’re paying to support bad cinema? Only to have Hollywood churn out more drek like this film?
It does not matter how hard those poor people worked to make that film, audience members still have the right to their opinion, even if they’re just looking at a trailer. You’re essentially suggesting that we should see a movie out of pity, and you’re making excuses for crap.

If you don’t think we should be entitled to our opinions, then you don’t get to argue the next time you see a trailer you think is garbage.

I liked the trailer. I love low brow. I love slap-stick. Both my cat and I are entertained by falling objects. For me, it’s especially hilarious if they are people… or crazy aliens… falling on their ass.

This film would defenitely sit well with kids of this target audience, I think. Us artists shouldn’t judge something just because it’s not in our style or age category.

It is what it is… for kids.

And my point was: Why do people need to be “warned” that a film isn’t entirely CG?

It’s just a teaser poster, and it’s trailer makes it clear that it’s a hybrid. I don’t think anyone’s being misleading here - Jerry’s expectations (and most of us, I suspect) don’t match those of a typical theater-goer. By the time the film hits the theater, no one’s going to have the expectation that it’s fully CGI.

It’s sort of like someone “warning” people away from seeing a Harryhausen film because it’s got live action in it.

Yeah, it really does look like a bunch of fail. Regardless, I still LOL’d at the Granny Shoryuken…

This was originally announced as “They Came From Upstairs,” which I think is a far better title. This trailer was originally released with that title- I was surprised to see it at the theatres yesterday with a new title at the end.

I know I should fear this, but I don’t know the meaning of the word ‘fear’.

Come to think of it, I don’t know the meaning of a lot of words, except…fail!

I think the better title for this thing would be “Straight to DVD.”

The quality of the creature work (rigs, texture, the whole CG nine yards) is a bit too high for direct-to-DVD treatment.

I could rant about the story, of which there appears to be next to none of, but will save it for a poorer-looking project, as this one really does have some decent talent behind it.

If I choose to pay to see it, I’m gonna hunt mighty hard for one of ‘dem matinee coupons MTC is keen to hand out these days.
