Fred and Sharon’s Movie Productions

Throughout the history of the animation art form, there have been a select group of innovators who have pushed the medium to its limits and explored the potential of animation to its fullest. These artists include Winsor McCay, Walt Disney, Max Flesicher, Tex Avery, John Hubley…and now, I’m pleased to announce, Fred and Sharon.

Fred and Sharon, hailing from Kelowna, Canada are redefining the possibilities of filmmaking and animation by producing movies for any type of occasion. You can learn about their skills by watching this introductory piece below, entitled “Who Needs a Movie.”

Of course, Cartoon Brew is an animation website and thankfully for us, Fred and Sharon are specialists in the art of animation. They work in a dizzying array of styles, including hi-end computer animation that is seamlessly integrated into live-action settings…

to a traditional hand-drawn look…

to more painterly and experimental styles of animation…

For more of their filmmaking magic, visit FredandSharonsMovies.com or their YouTube page. And when you see them accepting an Oscar, just remember that you read about them on Cartoon Brew first.

I wish I could animate good like that.

Is this for real? The guy looks like Jamie Kennedy.

Now, that’s a story worth writing about. They remind of these Edna and Tex Boil (sp?) on SCTV.

good Lord, Amid, you really are mean!!! *she types as she shakes with laughter.*

dang it, doesn’t sound like they’re taking internships!

03/8/08  3:14pm

Dan, Thank you so much for reminding me of the name “Tex and Edna Boil’s Organ Emporium”. I can still picture Edna gesturing with her arm, “come on down”.

Amid, I swear you have been spending too much time in Jerry’s Cartoon Dump. Now I have to watch some Norman McLaren and Richard Williams and hope the feeling comes back to my brain.

03/8/08  4:13pm

With skills like that it won’t be long before Robert Zemeckis poaches Fred and Sharon for ImageMovers.

Meng says:

I love them. It’s easy to be mean, but honestly… they are producing something, which is more than can be said of a lot of self-called (so-called) artists. Thanks for sharing.

Tim Drage says:

I couldn’t believe these videos were not satire. I’m still not sure but there doesn’t seem to be enough of an obvious ‘joke’ for them to not be for real. :-S

This must be a joke and it’s not even April yet.

03/8/08  9:07pm

Well, in the 20th century we had folk art and folk music. Maybe this is folk animation and folk video.

03/8/08  9:17pm
Percival says:

Fred and Sharon stole George Miller’s whole act. And I’ll bet they remember the names of their animators.

03/8/08  10:14pm

Oh, yes , this is so EXACTLY what the SCTV’rs (in this case Andrea Martin and Dave Thomas) were spoofing with bits like Tex and Edna Boil’s Organ Emporium .

Soon to be seen on Adult Swim!

03/9/08  10:24am

What I think is interesting about this stuff is that it exists at all. The fact is that these two people can get up and make something that people can see. I bet a lot of their friends are doing little more than watching TV and driving to the local CostCo. These two are playing with something that interests them. That’s pretty cool. I hope I keep playing when I am 64. It’s funny. But it’s also superior to what 90 percent of twenty-somethings post every day on their facebook/myspace/twitter/connect-me-with-the-next-moron.com site.
Frankly, I haven’t laughed so hard in front of my computer monitor for months. Thank you, Amid.

Chris Sobieniak says:

Still, I wouldn’t mind if it had been a semi-professional husband & wife team of sorts that set up shop on their own and did something pretty cool despite such a cute name they used for their business, say the husband had been an animator and the wife was a videographer/editor of sorts, I could see it working so perfectly if they found a balance between each other and learn from each other’s expertise.

In the case of THESE GUYS mentioned here, I can assume their services probably benefit those in need of having their precious weddings or child’s Christmas pageants recorded professionally if these guys could do well for that sort of thing than something a little higher like commercials or other commercial/work-for-hire projects.

Of course as Gerard De Souza said before, this could be the beginning of a sort of “folk animation/video” period we’ll just have to get used to if we have to make it through those booths at craft shows!

03/9/08  3:45pm
Alex says:

They’re like real life Tim & Eric characters!
I love it!

03/9/08  8:18pm

Finally, the first bullet in the independent internet animation revolution has been fired…

Seriously though, it is kind of sweet… kind of…

I’m with you Jody!
