Wow. This looks really fascinating. I really appreciate it when CG animators (especially students) don’t jump on the photorealism/hyper-realism bandwagon.

It’s also great to see a short that has a strong sense of design backing the animation.

Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

Silly question : why do we hear so much about the students of Supinfocom and Gobelins, yet almost nothing professional by anybody from there (do they all go in commercials and visual effects?) ? Or should I wait some years? Or I’m not too aware of animation in France?

I’m pretty sure that most of them are working at bigger studios. But there are definitely exceptions.

A final year student, Martin Ruyant, had come to our school to do a workshop and he seemed more interested in getting into abstract animation and stereoscopic imagery.

Even though his classroom film was quite good - http://www.ll-lllll.com - he still wanted to diversify and do more personal work.

I especially liked the colors. Really nice.

This comment mystifies me. I didn’t think there was one “stylized” look, and I thought all animation was “illustrative” (barring motion graphics and other abstractions) I’ve probably seen this look in editorial illustrations, but not in motion. Maybe there’s a lot out there I’m missing, but I thought this was very fresh, period.

Putting the issue of trendiness aside, this has excellent staging and composition. Nice color too. I wish I could see the whole thing, so I could comment on the story. Kudos, guys!

We’ll have to wait a while to see the full film-like Les Gobelins, Supinfocom have a policy of pushing their current shorts at festivals before allowing them online.

Matt is right, because of the festivals we can’t show the full film on the internet…
And for the students of Supinfocom, most of them work in commercials…
