Lucas producing CGI “musical fairies” feature

Word is spreading today of a top secret Lucasfilm CG animated musical now in preproduction at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County. All that is known about it is that Kevin Munroe (TMNT) is directing and David Berenbaum (Elf, The Spiderwick Chronicles) wrote the screenplay, from a story idea by Lucas. And that the film centers around a group of fairy characters.

The image above has nothing to do with this film – I just thought it was cute.

Snarky fanboy Comment: He should just release “Twice Upon a Time” on dvd and bluray and never touch animation again.

  • I don’t mind if it’s fairies or if it turns out disastrous, all it means is one less awful Star Wars bonanza from Lucas (for now…).

Also, yes – those matryoshka (or are they just dolls?) are super cute!

Jerry, the movie would be more interesting if it was based on the pic above.

  • Sean Montgomery

Will Kylie Minogue play the fairies?

  • I love all the nasty comments – about the rumor of the existance of the project. Somebody whispers that Lucas is working on something and the fanboys immediately start to whine.

Guys, its time to leave Mama’s basement. Seriously.

  • Harukuro

Well that’s nothing I never thought I’d hear. But still it sounds like an interesting project though I don’t think we should jump the gun on how it will turn out (it is just a rumour).

@Jerry: Yes that is a very cute image. Speaking of images it makes you wonder what kind of “Fairy” parody art we’re going to see to make fun of this movie once more Lucas fans hear about it.

  • Musical fairies? What, is this gonna be a modern day “Ferngully”?

  • Marc Baker

Lucas creating something ‘new’? That’s news to me! When was the last time Lucas moved away from the ‘Star Wars’ well for new ideas?

  • Mark Morgan

Frankly, I’m more interested to hear of Kevin Munroe’s involvement than I am of George Lucas.

TMNT was a great genre film, lots of action, good characterization, an intriguing story that wasn’t afraid to venture into new territory, and it was far more faithful to its source material than the recent live action Transformers or G.I. Joe films. I also enjoyed hearing his commentary on the movie. Munroe’s no Walt Disney, heck, he’s not even Fred Wolf, but he is ambitious and he’s proved he’s not afraid to take risks.

I’m going to keep an open mind about this one. I hope it works out for the best.

Lucasfilm is making a CGI film right now about a dog voiced by Johnny Dep.

Actually Pedro Johnny Depp’s character is a pet chameleon who thinks he’s a cowboy
