Oktapodi

French animation school Gobelins, which turns out no shortage of quality CG films, has another student film that’s been attracting a lot of buzz recently: Oktapodi. I saw an article about it last week in a French design magazine which inspired me to find out more about it. It’s directed by Julien Bocabeille, FX Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier, Emud Mokhberi.

The short won the “Best Animation” honor a couple months ago at the Imagina Awards 2008. The film isn’t online but it does have a sparse website at Oktapodi.com. Lots of development artwork from the short can be seen on the blog of one of the filmmakers, Quentin Marmier.

I always like seeing cool and fun design in CGI. It’s pretty refreshing.

Ive always been a fan of the Gobelins animation and art. Very refreshing sense of style and art that always inspires me to do better in my own work. Really cool work. I can’t wait to see the finished short.

This film is really great! We got a copy of the Gobelins reel at work and it’s amazing what those students are doing.

I’m working with a couple of those guys, Olivier & F.X., on ‘ A Monster In Paris’. They are insanely talented, young & good looking! (& they owe me 20 euros for this). Several graduates of Les Gobelins & Supinfocom are also in the art dept. here; Sébastien Piquet (http://traintamarre.com/film.html) Carlos Leon(www.aldente-themovie.com/)
& Aurélian Predal(mr-teckel.blogspot.com)

I’ve been raving about this film since I had the chance to see it, great cinematography, no slack at all in the pacing, funny as hell. Go see it if it finds its way to a festival near you!

I had the chance to see this at Animex 08 back in Feb. Very inspiring, especially the character designs. Animation is top notch as well. Just curious if anyone knows if and when its gonna be available online at all?
