Pixar’s Presto

I was getting ready to junk a flyer I’d received for the Hiroshima International Animation Festival when I noticed a tiny image printed on the back of it that I hadn’t seen before: a still from the new Pixar short Presto that will open in front of Wall-E. It marks the first directorial effort by supervising animator Doug Sweetland.

Presto

Corey says:

Oh man, classic setup for an animated short! I was wondering what the new short was.

A must see for me!

Tommy Day says:

I’m sure it will be great.

BNicolucci says:

Oooh, can’t wait for it. Doug’s an amazing animator and I’m sure he will blow everyone away.

It is funny that their last short starred “Luigi” and this short’s character looks a lot like the lawyer Talon from Ratatouille. Good to see those characters are getting work after the big film. :)

top cat james says:

“Now here’s something we hope you’ll really like…”

Kinoo says:

Funny that the next feature from Sylvain Chomet (Belleville Triplets) will focus on an illusionist too!

Can’t wait to see Presto anyway!

K.Borcz says:

Oh I like the look already! :)

Congratulations to Mr. Sweetland!

Getting in Pixar’s “Director’s Club” is no easy task. Nice to see another animator getting a shot. Way to go, Doug!

Oh lord. Attractive though that image is, I don’t think there’s a student showreel in the world that doesn’t have a CG short about a magician with a bunny on it. I’ve certainly seen my share of them, and rather than just set a standard which people accept, this is instead going to lead to a renaissance for poor imitations/variations on the theme. sigh. bring it on…

Keith Paynter says:

“Rootah, Vootah, Zoot! And observe, a rabbit! Yes. “

04/10/08  1:32pm

Cool! Im excited about seeing this. Always cool to see what Pixar has in the works.

04/10/08  3:06pm

Bravo! Doug helped me with my reel way back in 1998, via mail and phone calls. It’s great to see him directing a short!

Andrew Smith says:

I love that character design. He looks a lot like William Powell.

04/10/08  4:55pm
David Killington says:

Didn’t PDI do a magician short some years back? Pixar is stealing ideas again I see!! :)

04/10/08  7:46pm
Paul N says:

David, I remember the PDI magician short as well. In that one, the rabbit didn’t come out…um…intact…

Avi says:

Doug is an amazingly cool guy, I can’t wait to see his short!

Edgar says:

Hey Jerry,

Love the site and this firts image of Pixars new short Presto.

I went to the official site of the Hiroshima Festival and on the flyer (in poor adobe) I also saw the first image of Chris Williams’ short Glago’s Guest, which will screen before his own feature Bolt this coming Thanksgiving.

Could you maybe also add that still on Cartoonbrew, as it’s brand new.

Thnx a million

Clay Sisk says:

Looks great. From what I’ve read of “Up”, looks like Pixar is taking cues from Miyazaki.

rlcoolastic says:

I think this new short will be awesome, Wall*e will be a good movie too!

Mr. Semaj says:

Like most Pixar shorts, can’t wait to see this new one.

I’d like to know which films Disney is releasing their next few shorts in front of.
