Here’s the latest trailer for Pixar’s Ratatouille with a lot of new footage that I haven’t seen anywhere else before.

(Thanks, John)

This looks great! It’s a little weird that no one speaks with a French accent (at least in this trailer), but I’m sure I’ll get past that.

Adrian says:
03/16/07  2:37pm

Yeah, right. because we all know that in France everybody speaks English with a French accent… :D

Emmett Goodman says:

I am REALLY looking forward to this film. The main rat looks great, and really well animated. I am also curious as to this boy is. I never knew of him when they announced the film.

I have a sister who is training to become a chef. I know she will dive right into this. I can see her identifying the ingredients in that scene.

Looking forward to June 2007.

Hulk says:

So Patton Oswalt is the voice of the Rat. Who’s the voice of the Kitchen Boy? I don’t quite recognize it.

tom says:

This looks great. I cannot wait for this. I was a little unsure, and I felt a little unsatisfied with Cars, so I was nervous, but now I’m completely on board.

I’m going to have myself frozen cryogenically until this comes out. I hope the cryonics place takes Visa.

Travis Gentry says:
03/16/07  3:38pm

Still, Adrian, they could have at least tried not to make the main characters sound like they were from California.

LNG says:
03/16/07  3:56pm

That’s either Brad Bird doing the Kitchen Boy or someone channelng his emotional gestalt. Gershwin’s music is perfect. Let’s hope this isn’t just a scratch track for the trailer. Randy Newman can’t top “The American in Paris Ballet”, no matter how many Oscars he’s won, and he’d be the first to agree.

Remy says:
03/16/07  4:15pm

I’d say the music WAS scratch… there was bits from Roger Rabbit in there for sure…

Max says:
03/16/07  4:21pm

I’m pretty sure the kitchen boy is voiced by Lou Romano.

Lee Rubenstein says:
03/16/07  4:54pm

Love the use of the camera.
I’m anxiously awaiting this film.

Sean D. says:
03/16/07  4:57pm

The head chef speaks English with a French accent… saw some other footage at Wondercon besides this trailer, and it all looks amazing! Brad Bird said he’s only doing a small background character and I don’t remember his description of which character.

Thanks for posting the trailer!

Craig McCracken says:
03/16/07  5:47pm

Yep that’s Lou as the kid, even sorta looks like him.

droosan says:

IIRC, Michael Giacchino will be scoring Ratatouille; not Randy Newman. Very nice trailer; for some reason, the japanese Pixar trailers always do a better job of getting me excited about their films.

Cello says:

Man this is coming up to be a cute film… Actually, it’s kinda weird nowadays to have an animated trailer that focuses on the more touching moments of the story rather than just a random slideshow of funny clips from the movie. I like that! Way to go, Pixar!

And really, some people are worried that Remy plushies won’t sell because he’s a rat… That’s just ridiculous.

Hulk says:
03/16/07  6:53pm

Glad to hear they are letting more animation artists do voices too. Lou is also a reall good actor aside from being a great artist ( I don’t know him. I’m just a fan) Is “the Trouble with Lou” gonna be released any time soon?

Floyd Bishop says:
03/16/07  7:21pm

Brad Bird is a great director (and I loved “the Incredibles” and “The Iron Giant”), but I really wanted to see what Jan Pinkava would do with a feature. I’m disappointed that he’s not directing this. “Geri’s Game” is one of the strongest things Pixar has done so far. Hopefully Jan gets his own film soon.

Lauren says:

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS!!!! haha, how appropriate! wow, this lets on a lot more of the story. that is odd that the kitchen boy has an american accent, but maybe he is an american in paris (no pun intended…) i highly doubt pixar would do something dumb like that. remember all the accents in finding nemo?

Bugsmer says:
03/16/07  8:12pm

This looks like it might actually be a good movie.

Michael says:

The first trailer they released of Ratatouille I couldn’t catch where they were taking it. I’ve noticed that pattern in Pixar trailers, save Monsters Inc, that they don’t really give out what the story’s about until the last moment. I barely got what the Incredibles was going to be about when watching that unused clip of Mr. Incredible trying to put on his belt, but I guess it was to imply that his character would be called to a new adventure for him but out of shape for that task. I don’t mind though, that really makes me interested by wanting to guess what’s Pixar doing now. Can’t wait either!

- Yeah, right. because we all know that in France everybody speaks English with a French accent… :D

Still it makes me think of all those old cartoons I used to watch where often they didn’t always try to make it seem too realistic with it came to what conveyed better to the audience that would be watching the piece, so characters talking in English with French accents was so commonplace in an era where social studies/geography wasn’t a necessary tool for survival. My mom personally doesn’t even know exactly where we are anymore. I’m just glad I was good in most subjects except for math (my weakest point).

Though someome mentioned this was a Japanese trailer, I would concur and say it’s Chinese (I still can’t tell if it’s either Mandarin or Cantonese), but it’s definately not Japanese.

Absolutely beautiful…
This film looks SO promising on every level!
:)
Of course, the acting is outstanding. I LOVE when the ‘rat’
responds to the kid’s question about wether he knows how
to cook… brilliant!

This new trailer is a tremendous improvement over the older one. I wasn’t too impressed when I first saw clips of this movie, but now I’m genuinely interested. It seems that Brad Bird has made his mark as a director. I don’t think he’ll be pinch-hitting for someone else on this one.

I’m really looking forward to it now. I hope this trailer is a fair indication of the final film. Please, please, please don’t load it up with crappy pop songs. Please write a real story. Please leave out the sappy moral lessons. Am I asking for too much? We’ll see.

ZekeySpaceyLizard says:

The only time I can recall a “pop song” in a Pixar film was the Rascall Flats “Life is a Highway” cover in Cars. Usually they go with more jazz and orchestral stuff.

This trailer is great. I assume this will play at the beginning of Meet the Robinsons when its released here.

I can’t say I’m not disappointed seeing this trailer. Right off the bat, the color design is so miserably monotone! The last Pixar movie I really enjoyed was the tongue-in-cheek silliness of Monsters, Inc. — this movie looks like it has the potential to be a sentimental mess. Blasphemous as it might be on this board, I think I might hate Brad Bird… Something about his work feels so emotionally hollow and disingenuous to me. Anyone else get that feeling?

Adrian Hogan says:

It’s Chinese. Mandarin and Cantonese are different dialects however they both use the same written language.

Back on topic, I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie!

John says:

Now -that- looks wonderful.

Now I can’t wait to see it!

Michelle Klein-Hass says:
03/17/07  8:32am

This is some of the best animation of humans in any Pixar film. Even better than The Incredibles which had some really good cartoony stuff. And Ratatouille himself is adorable. This might redeem Pixar for inflicting “Cars” on us.

Steve Gattuso says:

Nice choice of Gershwin for the trailer. Unfortunately, YouTube’s reolution remains extra sucky, but even here you can see the marvelous detail Pixar has gone to for this new feature.

Mark says:
03/17/07  9:43am

WOW! Does that look amazing. The set, character, and color design look astonishing, and the cinematography and lighting blow everything out of the water, and may be the best looking animated film from Pixar since Finding Nemo.

Can’t wait!

Jim says:
03/17/07  11:21am

It’s insane how good that looks.

Jorge Garrido says:
03/17/07  12:16pm

Nice trailer, but it was a bit too realistic for me. When I saw the first teaser trailer, I thought the film was an allegory for animation: trash vs. good qaulity animation (and how people don’t care if they are consuming trash) I hope this angle was kept in the final film.

Jenny says:
03/17/07  12:21pm

Damn you, you guys. Bird, you sob–you make me cry every time with these trailers.
Gershwin? BGs that look (to me, anyway) like gouaches from Pinocchio? Beautiful pacing and all the rest of it? That’s how it should be.
Lou, gosh-I nearly fell out of my chair. You’re perfect.
I know you all kill yourselves during production…but isn’t it great when it’s worth it?

Kyle says:
03/17/07  3:44pm

the youtube vid was removed. is there another place to view it?

GagaMan says:
03/17/07  3:58pm

It’s been removed! Looks like this wasn’t meant to be released yet. Glad I watched it a few times!

Kyle says:
03/17/07  4:37pm

well, it was removed by the user, not youtube. so obviously it wasnt disney who wanted it removed…

mattsullivan says:
03/17/07  6:27pm

I was lucky enough to download and save this trailer before it was removed. I’ve been watching it over and over and over with wide, child-like eyes. The acting is PHENOMENAL. Not many people can pull off effective subtle acting, but this trailer shows WHY Pixar is so good.

Now, looking at this acting just re-enforces my belief that the “BEST ANIMATED FEATURE” oscar category is a terrible insult to animators everywhere, who should be recognized as great ACTORS.

Animation is the film industry’s shamefull little brother, and they’re always trying to shove it in a closet, because when you come right down to it, animated films ( even cheap ones ) can look so much better than live action. Don’t believe me? Then why don’t peope bitch about a “glut” of live-action films?

Now, back to the Ratatouille trailer. *click*

David says:
03/17/07  6:41pm

Well, I’m glad I saw it before it was taken down.

Looks great . I’m completely stoked to see this film.

I hope they use the Gershwin “An American in Paris” music in the actual film somehow , just a quick quotation , it’s such a great piece and I loved how they used it in this trailer . Maybe we’ll see this trailer soon in front of “Meet The Robinson’s” ?

k. borcz says:

I watched it on a computer without sound, and it looked great. I could still tell what was going on. I’m sure the sound will be suitable once it’s set. Can’t wait!

I remember being very worried about Cars after seeing every English language trailer I could find. It was the Chinese trailer that really got me pumped up about it. Why do they get the good trailers? Guess I’ll have to wait for the official release as it seems the Ratatouille trailer posted is down.

Loved the movie! One of my favorites, and i was glad the movie did so well, because i was a little disappointed with cars…

but near the end of the trailer, there is a song being played in the backround. does anyone know what the song is? Thank you so much if you do!
