“Spray” by Havard Forland Isaksen

Sometimes I can’t explain why I post certain films on Cartoon Brew. This is one of those. Exploding hair just makes me laugh. Norwegian Havard Forland Isaksen created this film in CG. Behind the scenes video here.

The behind-the-scenes link goes to a “private” video on Vimeo. Is there a publicly available one?

Look for the second thumbnail at the end of the video. I don’t know if that’s exactly the same thing, but it’s a making of.

  • A-PUBE-calypse! :D

Personally, I wouldn’t call this CG. It’s computer manipulation of photographed elements. There should be another term for it. I recommend CMI, computer manipulated imagery.

“Exploding hair just makes me laugh.”

When I read that, I thought aha, the video might be picking up on a Tangled blooper — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K-Gv4XVb10, especially @33 — which when I saw it I thought how could they not have totally scrapped wherever Tangled was going and gone with that instead? It’s so fabulous! I mean, that thing Lasseter says about art challenges technology, technology inspires art — they weren’t just hit with a wall of inspiration? No lightning, no tsunami, no bowling pins, no mushroom cloud? I guess it must just be me, but whatever it is, that’s a movie — a Rapunzel even — I’d still love to see.

This one was great too, though, so congrats and thanks. :-)
