Although I noticed upon reading them that they both repeat the incorrect myth that it was the world’s first-ever animated feature film. That’s not exactly true, although it was the first one in the English language and in Technicolor. The names of the others can be found on wikipedia:

“The Adventures of Prince Achmed”, made in 1926, is the oldest one that can still be seen today (and it’s a genuinely excellent film too).

Since information traveled a lot slower in those days, it’s quite likely that Disney never even knew that he wasn’t the first. And I’ll bet that most of us didn’t know either until we learned of it on the internet.

I’ve had a ton of formatting problems with the SW post. I’ve spent a lot of hours trying to get the darned thing looking good…but to no avail. Sigh.

The font has gotten mixed-up, pictures don’t enlarge when you click on them, some pictures didn’t download properly, there are extra spaces between some of the lines, and some of the text has centered itself when it should be flush against the left margin.

Instead of killing the post, I thought I’d just leave it up. It looks very unprofessional, but I thought there were enough neat pictures and commentary as to warrant its existence.
