Koko flip book

Here’s a piece of Fleischer animation unseen in over 80 years… in fact it may never have been seen in movement at all. Director Bob Jaques loaned animator John Vincent his rare copy of Betty Boop’s Movie Cartoon Lessons which features a Koko The Clown flip book template. Vincent then put together a quicktime of the Koko run cycle. The result: twelve seconds of pure bliss!

Um, that was more like one second of pure bliss, twelve times.

While I like this a lot, I can’t help but think how, if this were a 3D run cycle, it’d be raked over the coals.

Thank you. That was fun.

Since animated GIFs are basically just high-tech filp books, I thought it would be fun to make one with the Koko template linked to above.

In the GIF, Koko runs from B&W to a grayscaled background to color.

Hey Michelle, Thanks for registering the cycle properly. 2’s are a little slow for it in my opinion but I’m glad you’re having fun with it.
