New Years Looney Tunes marathon

Looney Tunes make a return appearance to television on New Years Day when Cartoon Network is scheduled to broadcast an all-day 14-hour marathon of classic Warner Bros. cartoons. 95 shorts, spanning four decades, begin on New Years Day (January 1st) at 6am with Freleng’s The Wabbit Who Came To Supper (pictured above). The final hour at 7pm highlights Chuck Jones masterpieces like One Froggy Evening, Duck Amuck, Duck Dodgers and What’s Opera Doc?. Jon Cooke posted the exact schedule on the Termite Terrace Trading Post forum. But note, this is a one-time-only stunt. Perhaps overwhelming ratings will convince the network to return these treasures to the regular line-up. Whatever happens, this sounds like the perfect way to start 2009. |

I checked out CN’s website and saw nary a peep about the marathon.
No, no—not trying to claim it’s not happening. But nevertheless, if they don’t advertise it, they can’t blame it on the Looney Tunes brand if average viewers don’t know enough to tune in.
It’s not unlike some Disney products I’ve worked with; despite the genuine fame of the characters involved, kids will only become aware of the product if you plug it.
What David is saying: Wasn’t part of the reason Back in Action failed 5 years ago because they didn’t advertise it? (Which gave Cartoon Network their excuse to abandon Looney Tunes anyway once people caught on?)

Joy to the cartoon world! I’ve all but given up on CN in recent years. Let’s hope that it’s a sign of things to come (especially for us who don’t get Boomerang!). Now, if only the Disney Channel will return to it’s roots and stop pretending to be Nickelodeon 2.

Awesome. I wonder if they’ll use the newest dvd masters (with the over saturated colors) or the older, more natural looking ones.
Oh, and just a a reminder, unless you have a Nielsen box, its not going to matter weather or not you watch as far as ratings go.
It still shocks me that the Loony Tunes are not on TV in any capacity at this point. You’d think WB would at least have a webvideo portal where you could view them, but no. The only place to see them are the DVDs.

Hey, I like the animated parts of that film. It could’ve been a better film had WB kept their noses off most of the production.

Looney Tunes on CN????? What has the world come to?! Before you know it, Boomerang will air the original Popeye’s! But it think we can give up our hopes of analogue television come February.
Terrytoons deserve their own 24/7 dedicated network. Gandy and Sourpuss could take the midnight till six a.m. slot all by themselves.
The Looney Tunes lasted almost a half-century on television, outlived almost every flash-in-the-pan cartoon fad that reared its ugly head, and are only NOT on TV now because Time Warner is so incompetently run as a conglomerate that to say it’s run by chimps would be an insult to chimps.
There’s no doubt in my mind that this one-shot deal will do well. And hey, if it leads to, say, a Looney Tunes/Tom and Jerry/Scooby Doo block, then maybe Warners’ next LT revival attempt won’t crash and burn spectacularly.

They need to stop doing all this new crap. If they want to push out crappy merchandise, fine but stop making new LT shorts and features. People only want the old stuff and it’s been proven time and again.
This is utterly delightful news! As I can’t go ice skating on New Years, as is our family tradition, I will be imbibing as many Looney Tunes as possible.

Cartoon Network, they have some real ad wizards aren’t they ? They won’t advertise an entire day of classic cartoons but they’ll let you know ALL DAY LONG for a new episode of Total Drama Island by using an annoying timer on the screen.
They’ve been advertising the marathon for the past two days…
On New Year’s Day, the Cartoon Network will be worth tuning into for the first time since they stopped showing Looney Tunes and other older classic cartoons. This channel has shown nothing but 24 hours of garbage every day for years. They have finally smartened up; at least for a day.
I’m only 21 years old but the Looney Tunes is one of my most nostalgic childhood memories. I even asked for Looney Tunes DVDs for Christmas, and I was SO HAPPY to hear that there was actually going to be a marathon on New Years day.
Like others said, I hope the ratings are so crazy Cartoon Network finally gives the Looney Tunes a regular time slot. It’d be the only reason to watch Cartoon Network.
I think we should petition Cartoon Network to show regular airings of Looney Tunes.
The digital cable service ‘Kids WB On Demand’ has Warners cartoons available.

Just when I was really getting into this marathon, it ends… and an episode of Totally Awful Flash Animation Island began. Why couldn’t this have aired until 11PM? It cuts me like a knife knowing that this could be the last time in a long time that Cartoon Network will air Looney Tunes episodes.
I thought it was interesting that they aired the censored version of “Show Biz Bugs.” The version they aired yesterday ends right after Daffy plays the xylophone and it explodes.
loved loved loved it…….they need to take off all the computer crap and go back to the hand drawings… this new stuff sucks….. look at disney ch its crap where are all the cartoons that i grew up with… and where the hell is Scooby Doo…. come on now the new stuff isnt working go back to drawing things by hand…..
Looney tunes is always a hit at our house. Why can’t they be on at a regular viewing time? We enjoy them with our grandchildren.
Classics by definition never wear out. And we could use some laughter , rather than the scary tunes that are on now. Those tunes were FUNNY. I agree with Robert Hill, Mathew Brooks and DJH. and the others.
