Rare Adventures of The Road Runner trailer
February 16, 2008 12:05 am

Indulge me – this post is only for true Looney Tunes trivia nerds. The kind, like me, who find the tiniest piece of cartoon minutiae fascinating.

Last April I posted a TV trailer for Lad: A Dog which contained several seconds of new Bugs Bunny footage from Chuck Jones unit. Recently, film collector Bill Colleton unearthed a companion 20-second TV spot which promotes the initial pairing of Lad: A Dog with the featurette The Adventures of the Road Runner. It’s just a small piece of lost Looney Tunes history, but I think it’s cool – and I just had to share:

The Adventures of the Road Runner featurette has since been released on DVD, included with the bonus materials in Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2. (Lad: A Dog, alas, has never been released on DVD).

Neat find. “The Adventures Of The Road Runner” would eventually be split into two separate cartoons for TV screening–”Zip Zip Hooray” and “Road Runner-A-Go-Go”–as well as being the only Road Runner cartoon where Wile E. talks.

Wow, that win a collie puppy sounds like a horror story waiting to happen. Any one remember the Carvelle’s ice cream when a pony debacle?

REALLY? WIN a puppy? LOL!!! I work for a pet store and I start sweating everytime a movie comes out that features any animal. I bet if movies had adverts like that today it would go over like a fart in church. Personally I’d rather win the coyete. *grin*

Great to see this little bit of Looney Tunes ancillary material. The narrator sounds borderline desperate for some reason.
Vincent, I’m curious about your pony tale (sorry). Is this a legendary promotional flop? Can’t find any info online.

David: Yes as I understand the story. Children all over NYC won ponies through a Carvel promotion. But if you live in a five flight walk up where the hell are you supposed to put a pony?
Long story short, the kids didn’t pick them up, someone forgot to pay for keeping them. Which led to many of them Starving to death.
Oh I am such a ray of sunshine.

What? Win a coyote pup—and be responsible for catching its supply of road runner meat?
That’s the quick way down a slippery slope (together with an anvil, a can of grease, an ice-cube maker and a lot of dynamite).

XD that would be fantastic! at the end of your adventures you can do a photo-album in which you can collect the most amazing moment of your life togheter…it could be titled “Me & The Coyote Pup”!! for example you can put on it a photo with the exploding dynamite, another one where you are dying and the little coyote is running to call the ambulance from the next telephone cab (very LOONG distance), the coyote pup screaming because you didn’t catch the Road Runner and don’t want to eat the normal food…that’s sooo cute!! :D
