Walter Tetley is a name you may not know, but you’ve definitely heard his voice.

He’s best known for his role as Sherman in Jay Ward’s Mr. Peabody (the Peabody’s Improbable History segments of Rocky & Bullwinkle), and he also did voice over for Walter Lantz (as Andy Panda and Reddy Kilowatt) and Warner Bros.

New York’s radio station WFMU posted a nice tribute to Tetley (1915-1975) on their blog yesterday. Check it out to learn more about the man behind the quintessential “kid voice”.

Thanks for this! Tetley is one of my favorite old time radio actors (in addition to the animation voices he did). The Phil Harris & Alice Faye show is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard and he was hysterical on that show…

While we’re talking Tetley, Jerry, this is a good time to note that the link you have to the “official Tetley website” or whatever it calls itself in the links section of your CartoonResearch site has long been dead - leading to a 404 page. So thanks for this article, it makes up for that loss!

I’m a huge fan of Walter Tetley. He was great.

Back in the forties during the Golden Age of Radio, my mom and dad took me to CBS and NBC in Hollywood, where I was able to see and hear many of these wonderful radio stars.

Unlike television — it was magical.

And he died exactly a week before I was born! Scary . . .

Thanks for the links about Tetley! I wondered who did the voice for Leroy on THE GREAT GILDERSLEEVE, among many other roles (including cartoons). This is quite informative, perhaps even educational.
