If you are reading this blog and didn’t purchase Volume 1 of Woody Woodpecker and Friends last year… well shame on you! You still can still order it here. If cost was an issue, or if Walter Lantz cartunes aren’t your thing, I urge you to seek out this special “spotlight collection”, Woody Woodpecker Favorites (box art above center) which goes on sale March 10th, 2009.

The disc contains 15 Woody Woodpecker Cartoons (Knock Knock, Pantry Panic, The Barber of Seville, Ski for Two, Chew-Chew Baby, The Dippy Diplomat, The Loose Nut, Who’s Cookin’ Who?, Bathing Buddies, Fair Weather Fiends, Musical Moments from Chopin, Banquet Busters, Wet Blanket Policy, Sleep Happy, The Redwood Sap), plus bonus cartoons: Fish Fry with Andy Panda, Pied Piper of Basin Street a Swing Symphony, and these Tex Avery classics: The Legend of Rockabye Point (with Chilly Willy), Sh-h-h-h-h-h and Crazy Mixed Up Pup. 	Looks like a great set for casual collectors! I hope Universal still has plans for a Woody woodpecker Vol 3 in the future.

	Oh man, this single disk sounds wonderful just for the bonus features alone! I like the fact that you added an original WOODY WOODPECKER SHOW to the disk and, yes, this is good for that skeptical beginner. I have the two “golden” collections, but I’m even thinking of grabbing this one. Are the prints any different from the ones already available on the two hefty volumes already issued?

	I already own Volume 1, but I’ll buy this disc anyway if it will convince Universal that a Volume 3 might be worth releasing.

	Wow, that is a bargain! I already own Vols. 1 and 2 of the boxed set; but this might be worth getting as well, just for the bonus eps of The Woody Woodpecker Show.

	The cover on the DVD reads “digitally remastered”. Is the picture quality of the current “Woody Woodpecker Favorites” DVD better than those of the “Woody & Friends” boxset?

	Chris - For two years in the late 40s Lantz Cartunes were released by U.A. - Lantz later sold his library to Universal Pictures. If you haven’t read The Walter Lantz Story by Joe Adamson, Of Mice and Magic by Leonard Maltin, or explored the online Walter Lantz Encyclopedia http://lantz.goldenagecartoons.com/ - I urge you to do so.

	This is nice, but over time I’ve found all I go back to are the bonus cartoons. That seems to be where the best work was done. Swing Symphonys are a gas. It would be nice to have just a DVD of the non-Woody/Andy Panda Lantz output.

	If it hasn’t already been noted, Tex Avery and Walter Lantz are both buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills. So are Lantz’ wife Gracie, Ub Iwerks, Roy Disney and Bob Kane (Batman’s creator).

	I don’t think I would buy a third volume of Walter Lantz cartoons. The first one was great, but while the second one had some good stuff on it, too much of it–mainly the later Woody Woodpeckers–was pretty numbing. I’ve always wondered why Walter Lantz relied on Paul J. Smith as his primary director for so many years, given that Smith’s output was, at best, consistently mediocre.

	Seriously, did Universal only commision one promotional pose of Woody Woodpecker?! They’ve used that one pose on everything from DVDs to bird seed…

	I won’t tell you my age, but when I was a grade-schooler, we had a 78-rpm phonograph and no TV, and my parents gave me a record of the Woody Woodpecker song for Christmas. Was that Mel Blanc doing the vocals on that record? I don’t recall seeing anything about it on the DVDs that have been issued so far.

	I’m not buying another Woody set, as the quality of the first was a huge disappointment. The first claimed to be digitally restored, but obviously was not. Fool me once, et cetera.

	I bought this a few days ago from a Cracker Barrel in North Carolina while on vacation. I took it home and I greatly enjoyed it! I hope on getting the tree-disc sets anytime in the future.
