Philipp Lenssen’s ambitious comics website Cover Browser attempts to compile the covers to every popular comic book ever published. He has a long way to go, but I’m happy to report he’s just expanded his entries to include several of my favorite comedy and animation titles including Dell’s Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, DC’s Sugar and Spike, Funny Stuff and Real Screen Comics and Creston’s Giggle and Ha-Ha Comics. Lots of good inspiration here and well worth a browse.

I still prefer comics.org.

compare the quality of some of the pics here
http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/avengers
to here
http://comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=1571

and compare this
http://comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=97
to what coverbrowser gives when you put “action” into the search box.

Great Site. All the way at the bottom of the list of comic titles is a link to “Worst Album Covers”. These are way too funny. But what makes it even funnier (for me) is I may have bought one or two of these albums, back in the day (thinking they were cool).
Thanx!

It’s great seeing so many comics that I had so many years ago. That site is always a fond trip down memory lane. Wish I still had them all!

YES! The Worst Ablum Cover section is priceless! I’m about to release a new CD and now I’m paranoid about the cover ha! ha!

I have that Black Sabbath Sabatoge Album (On CD though. It’s got a lot of cool tracks).

….Oh and I dug the comic book covers too. I will waste lot’s of time pouring through those.

Couldn’t understand why it was considered that bad at all, I like the design otherwise. Rock albums tend to have the most funky ideas back then (like that one for Scorpions). I sorta got a kick out of the one for “The Addicts” featuring a pretty descriptive back cover drawing of a guy shooting up (things they’ll never put on CD covers these days). And of course Heino, what’s more to say than that!

Really, this is the sort of think I would see as I constantly poured through the record bins at Goodwill, Salvation Army and countless yard sales over the years, never much gave more than a glance at ‘em and went on to find what I wanted. I feel ashamed for not doing so, as I probably be doing the blog deal of sticking up the albums for all those noobs to take a listen to and realize the hell I went through in obtaining these lost gems (even those high school choir LP’s find some novel use)!

God, that site rules! It’s like being 10 years old again, and a new comic shop opened up down the street from your house, and you spot this one Dell comic from the 50’s you just had to beg your mom to buy you despite costing somewhere over $20. Needless to say, I still have that comic!

For more comic musings, Cap’n Dave Merrill and his wife Shain compiled the best of the worst comics on the planet at “Stupid Comics”….
