Chip and Dale meet 50 Cent

Talk about Disney merchandising Fail. This is taking “urban” fashion to the extremes of bad taste: “roflerskatez” found this wallet for sale in Taiwan yesterday and posted it on Tumblr. It’s Chip and Dale with a lyric from a 50 Cent song called My Gun Go Off. Despite the copyright notice, this is (I hope) a knock-off.

(via Reddit WTF)

  • Clearly that should be Yosemite Sam.

    • Change “nigga” to “wabbit,” and convert all “l”s and “r”s to “w”s. You’ve just made Elmer Fudd stweet.

  • WTF????????????????????????????
This is horrible and wrong on so many levels!
The wallet itself is nice but the lyric is killing everything.°_____°

    • I think it’s a knockoff. Have you ever seen the Engrish website? That sort of strange items seems common. Heres the link :)

  • The Gee

And, clearly it isn’t an authorized product.
It is so dang incongruous. None of the various parts of the image go together.
    All for a wallet?!?

    • Funkybat

Incongruity (intentional or otherwise) on cheap Asian knockoff merchandise is an endless font of hilarity.

  • Alison

That was my reaction to this. To me, how would one bring something so uber cute and use 50 Cent’s lyrics at the same time? Maybe somebody out there has a reason.

  • This. Is amazing.

  • Beautiful.
    I wish it was authorized.
If Disney is gonna do it, they should go all the way.

  • Gobo

I saw a lot of products like this in Japan — knockoff Disney products with random song lyrics or random offensive English words, like a picture of Mickey Mouse on a shirt with something like JACKOFF TORNADO underneath. It’s very hip to have English on your clothes or wallet or school notebook, and it doesn’t really matter if it’s nonsense. Kind of like getting Japanese kanji tattooed on your back because it looks exotic.

    • Chris Sobieniak

…Then someone tells you what it really means and you wish you had the extra cash to try to have it sugically removed!

    • Jeff

There’s actually a website devoted to tattoos of Chinese or Japanese writing where the tattoo either is gibberish or means something other than what the “tattooee” wanted.

  • Marv

Things like this justify Disney paying their legion of lawyers the big bucks.

  • I remember when I lived in Indonesia, we had merchandise like this selling all over the place. In fact, it was rare to find genuine merchandise at all!
    So yeah, it’s a bootleg.

  • Wow.

  • Abel

I expect to see hipsters flocking to buy this up… shrewd move Disney…

  • anonymous shark

    i lol’d

  • Liam Scanlan

“Disney Merchandising Fail”? More like “Political Correctness Fail” LOL!

    • Manny

Well, Disney is after all the model for PC, so I don’t see a problem here, huh?

  • top cat james

    Straight Outta Glendale, yo!

  • Bobby

    I still want the wallet.

  • Justin Delbert

Ok. This is why people connect that Disney is racest. This was probably a bone-headed mistake, and I hope that some black person doesn’t sue the Disney company (because if someone does, the chances of Song of the South being released will be lower than what they are now, which is still very low because Bob Igor says “absolutly not”).

  • Andre

This is one of the reasons I don’t like hip-hop or 50 cent. This kind of crap is no better than the damn “coon songs” of the early 1900’s. Only now we have knockoff wallets with Disney characters and the damn lyrics on them.

  • This takes the basic premise of the ‘Kanye + Comics’ meme ( to a whole other level!

  • MichaelDair

    ~Pulp Fiction~

    Scene- Restaurant Hold Up.
Jules has just asked Ringo for his wallet back.

    Which one is yours?

The brown one with Chip ‘N’ Dale and the 50 Cent lyrics on it.

    • i spat so much coffee on my monitor when i read this that i had to take a second sip.

  • killskerry

This is on the same level as the harry potter Obama Sonic the hedgehog backpack!

    • Funkybat

I picture scholars in the year 5000 puzzling over the tattered remains of that backpack, trying to fit it into the context of the few other artifacts they have found from our era.

  • Steven M.

    Wow, thats just sickening.

  • Clint

See, this is why rap is so stupid.

    • ^^^^See, this is why white people are stupid.

      • is that ironic rascism?

    • Cyle

That’s like watching Delgo or Sir Billi and saying “See, this is why CG cartoons are so stupid.”

  • Fred Sparrman

Don’t you get it? Dale’s slumped against Chip’s back, he’s been shot, he’s dead. It all fits.

  • Michael Rianda

This is fantastic. How could you not love that?

  • The craps gonna hit the fan with this one!

  • Gray64

I work with federal court cases every day, and Disney’s intellectual properites are some of the most bootlegged stuff out there. And for the many who think they should lay off the “little guys” that produce the bootlegs, they actually HAVE to prosecute misappropriations of their stuff, or risk losing their international copyrights.
I wonder if whoever made the wallet even knew what the lyric said.

  • Gray64

With the copyright notice there, the maker could, if prosecuted, claim it was done in parody and was not a misappropriation, given that the copyright holder was identified.

  • uncle wayne

that is just a RIOT!!! (And I get “looks” from (still) using the word “Colored!”) lol

  • joachim

That’s definitely the sickest wallet I’ve ever seen.
The mushrooms really tie it together

  • timmyelliot

Kind of reminds me of the japanese black-face fad,

  • TsimoneTseTse

    Oh, it’s real.

I mean, it was on the internet, so it’s GOT to be REAL!

  • VertMB

It’s so terrible that it loops around and becomes hilariously good.

  • I would kill a mushroom for this wallet.

  • AJ

is there one with the rescue rangers lyrics on it?

  • Joel O’Brien

If only it came with a big honkin’ trucker chain attached, then I’d buy it in a Noo Yawk minute!

  • udx

Whoever did this, should replace Chip N Dale with Beavis and Butthead.*Smacked*

  • HJ

Of course it’s a knock-off. Licensing abuse runs rampant abroad.

  • Think of it this way: it captures Walt Disney’s racist nature perfectly!

  • Shmorky

    I want this wallet.

  • cst

I think it’s a little out of character for them… but I was always a “Mac n’ Tosh” fan, myself.

  • 50 Cent’s supposed to be INSIDE the wallet.

  • Steve Gattuso

Sorry for interruptin’, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had the best wallet of all time! OF ALL TIME!

  • Is this available on ebay? Loving it!

  • ‘my gun go off’ …. astounding use of the language. Was this from his album ‘make money for feed me’ containing hits such as ‘ahm a hurt ma elbow bone’ ‘cars go vroom’ ‘da wheels on da bus’

  • Vzk
  • Robert Schaad

Chip is lookin’ a little public domain-ish.

  • There’s a reason why rap drugs and cartoons go together. Cartoons are low brow art. That’s why, as much as Walt Disney tried to class up the art form, he never made it to the level of high art. I have enjoyed almost every piece of merchandise that has been posted in an attempt to bad mouth the “new” Disney aesthetic. IMO the worst crap at the Disney store has that faux classy look where everything is washed in a golden brown finish and put in an “classy” gold frame. The worst tshirts are the ones where they erase the cigar from classic mickey’s mouth and put a golden glow around him. There’s nothing fun or interesting about class.

  • That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen from Disney in at least ten years.

  • bob

It’s interesting that — when taken out of context — the lyrics of 50 Cent are STILL repulsive!

  • Alissa

This is either the most idiotic bootleg I’ve ever seen, or the absolute best. It’s so random and rude that it ends up being funny.

  • I want to buy this. No seriously. Does anyone know how I can purchase this hilarious thing.

  • Marc Baker

I honestly don’t care for these ‘urban’ reimaginings of beloved characters. Most of them are pointless, and almost violate the core essence of such characters. I could accept seeing images of some characters wearing current clothing, like Mickey, and minnie in 80’s attire, but some of these urban clothing, and motifs just don’t work.

  • Tom

Dude who spotted this gem – buy a truckload of them and sell on ebay, you’ll be a fuckin’ millionaire!
