Liquor Store or Disney Animation Building?

Does this look familiar?

Steve Stanchfield (Thunderbean Animation) — forever on the outlook for Preston Blair swipes as he travels across the nation — spotted this architectural curiosity (above).

Mary and I were travelling recently through Lexington, KY and saw this.disneyanimbuilding2.jpg Doesn’t this building scream “Drinking is FUN!”??? It seems as if they either really liked a certain newer animation building in Burbank (at left), or were making fun of the fact that so many animators loved the sauce. Maybe if Disney ever decides to scrap animation all together they can sell the building to these folks!

I’d like to make a reference to “Pink Elephants On Parade”… but I think I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Oh, lord. I always wondered why that place looked so familiar.

Hey squares, drinking IS fun!

Now excuse me, I need to get an aspirin.

PS: Glad to see the Brew’s server problems are over :-)

So that’s what a barn looks like.

If you’re ever in LA with Steve, ask him to give you the grand tour of places that famous animators died horrible deaths. It’s riveting!

i wonder if disney ever would considered renaming their building “the animator’s barn”

When I came to Disney back in the fifties I remember the old guys used to really hit the sauce.

Maybe they should start drinking again.

There was always a story that there was an underground tunnel from the animation building on the main lot to the Pago Pago on Alameda. The Pago Pago is now gone and I believe the tunnel has been filled up.

I don’t know if it’s true but I heard that when Walt had the animation building built in Burbank on the lot after the move from Hyperion that he deliberately had it designed to resemble a hospital so if all failed he could at least sell out to the St. Josephs Hospital which was right across the street. That being said maybe the “new” animation building in reality used the same cautionary design measures to sell out to a barn restaurant chain if all failed. (teehee) ….

Just change the sign to “Inebriation”, or “Libation”, or maybe “Intoxication”, and you’re good to go.
