Nick Pitera sings Part of Your World

The Little Mermaid reunion in Burbank last night was a blast. Co-Directors John Musker and Ron Clements (and panelists including Andreas Deja, Reuben Aquino, Mark Henn, Duncan Marjoribanks, moderator Tom Sito, among others) told great stories on how the film got made and the highs and lows of casting, production, test screenings and the ultimate public reaction to the final product. (Asifa-Hollywood recorded the panel on video).

During the Q & A portion, John Musker mentioned seeing a remarkable (and a bit scary) You Tube video of Nick Pitera and his cover of Part Of Your World. Check it out below:

Even more interesting is Pitera’s “duet” of A Whole New World from Musker and Clement’s Aladdin.

Hulk says:

That’s quite a falsetto he’s got. I haven’t been able to sing that high since before puberty! If you close your eyes he actually sounds like a girl. I bet in the old days of shakespeare, before they let women on stage, it was guys like Nick who played the female roles. Just a guess.

Awesome covers!

Rick Farmiloe says:

Tina Price and myself were also on the panel. It WAS a really memorable night!! The audience was really enthusistic and knowledgable. I wish more Mermaid alumni could have been there to share in the celebration. It’s nice to know a film that we worked on 20(!) years ago, still has a loyal following. It was great to see old friends, and meet some of the audience members afterwards.

Nick that is insane! You are amazing at the ol’ vocal stuff. If you were to tour I would defiantely go see, I don’t think the amazement would be shaken! Don’t do any american idol or that though…please.

Blackguard says:

I wish someone with enough acumen would explain why this video - and by extension the whole Disney aesthetic — makes some people swoon and others want to drive an icepick through their skull.

Seriously.

Enoch Allen says:

Yeah, I agree, that’s a pretty good voice he’s got.

I was the guy in the S.b.P. hat & gear, in attendance. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jerry again, as well as Mr. Musker, Mr. Clements, Antran Manoogian, Tom Sito, Nancy Parent, Mr. Deja, Scott, Robert, a ton of other luminaries (please forgive my faulty ass memory, it never works the way I want it to work when I need it to). I have long said that these events are my true film education, the one where I don’t need to pay $100,000+ in order to equip myself with the tools to succeed in this challenging marketplace.

I can’t wait for the next opportunity to meet you guys again.
