Attached to today’s release of Up is the teaser trailer for Toy Story 3. I love how they squeezed the entire cast (and their voices) into it.

UPDATE: We’ve refreshed the link. If it doesn’t work, go see it today with UP and give us your comments.

(Thanks, Iain Robbins)

Cute!

I wonder who did those incoherent voices for Slinky in this.

If you liked one and two — you’ll love three. It’s that good.

Yeah, need I say, they’ve done it again.

Dan:

According to Wikipedia, “Slinky Dog’s voice artist Jim Varney died of lung cancer in 2000. He was replaced by a friend who producer John Lasseter described as “sound[ing] an awful lot like him.”

Or they just reused old sounds of him from the previous two movies.

Interestingly, a lot of animators at work didn’t seem to be impressed or even interested by this teaser. A couple of them even noticed a couple of terrible poses, especially with Woody at the end. But, at the same time, I think the teaser did its best at teasing, especially when you consider it’s gonna be in front of Up.

So, what did the rest of you think of it? Were you disappointed, surprised, neutral? I was pretty happy to see the gang back together, personally!

Those wizards at Pixar hooked a bank of car batteries up to old Jim Varney and brought him back for some voice sessions. They aren’t only animators, they’re REanimators!

/hey Vern!

Ah well. It’s playing before UP, right? I’ll see it soon!

For those that missed it, it was very charming.

Found a working online post of the trailer off of Carlos Baena’s Blog.

‘Andy’ must be nearing College age ,wonder if he’s still playing with these guys.

Just got back from Up and it wasn’t in my theater’s previews.

Neil: “‘Andy’ must be nearing College age ,wonder if he’s still playing with these guys.”

Believe it or not, that’s the premise of the story! It was said on a recent article somewhere.

Didn’t see this when I saw UP – but now I have! Thanks for the link.

Hoping for some “Brave Little Toaster” cameos due to the similarity between their stories and Lassiter’s involvement in both.

It was like seeing old friends again! Loved it. I didn’t notice any terrible poses though… Woody’s ALWAYS posed awkwardly given the way the doll is made, so his elbow-high hand-on-hip poses are normal. He’s always carried his weight a bit differently than other characters, too. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!

I can’t help but be a little dubious about this one. It feels like it’s only being made just so Pixar can remind everyone who is in charge of their films.

At least now, Disney isn’t wasting anymore money on a shop set up for the sole purpose of putting Pixar’s property thru a sequel factory.

Maybe this trailer only plays in front of the 3D version of Up? That’s how I saw it tonight. Looking forward to TS3.

Toy Story 2 remains my favorite movie of all time. So it should go without saying I love this trailer. Saw it in 3d twice, and I keep watching the HD versions at home over and over. I cant explain how great it feels seeing the gang on screen again in new animation and hearing their voices again. Next June cant come soon enough. Ive been waiting since 1999 for this sequel.

By the way, if you didnt have it attatched to up, chances are you did not see UP in 3d. its only in the 3d showings. for the 2d you get the princess and the frog instead.

Floyd, can you tell us anything else at all? do you know what stage their in production their in at least? I’m wondering if they recycled the original models, or had to make new ones. I heard the models/rigs were so old they would only run on outdated systems no longer in use anywhere. So I’m curious if they’ll be able to use the latest rendering techniques with them or not. From the looks of the teaser they are.

I also wonder how…light hearted the movie will be. I prefered the slightly more depressing tone of the second compared to the first for some reason. I cant imagine 3 wont be even more sad.

Seems like its only show in the 3D edition, saw it in 2D saw the Partly Cloudy short, which was very enjoyable.

I’m feeling kinda meh about that trailer. Sure, I’m excited for the fact that Toy Story 3 is coming, but… that trailer…

It featured a scene that I like to call “the Pixar moment”.

The lead character wanders through all the other characters in one big group going “hey” “how’s it going?” “haha, watch it, coming through!” “lookin’ good!” etc, while the other characters exhibit a major quirk of their personality or design. It was in EVERY Pixar movie up until the Incredibles and always bugged the hell out of me.

I don’t know what it is about it, perhaps the off the cuff conversational nature of the dialogue in such an obviously very engineered scene. Or perhaps how it feels like a lazy way to introduce an ensemble cast in one big go. Lazy, though effective, sure. Or something. I don’t know, it just always irks me, and I’d was glad to see them not rely on it so much in their past few movies, but here it is as the trailer itself for Toy Story 3!

Amator says:

Actually, Fred, it’s playing in front of every Digital showing of Up. This also includes 3D showing.

Adam, it was a fun teaser trailer. Does Pixar really need a reason to have fun with their characters? Enjoy it for what it is. :)

I was meh, up until Hamm popped up and said “Ehhh, I’m Supervising”
Then I got excited.

Please make this good Pixar!

I’m looking forward to see what they do with a third Toy Story. They were definitely able to vary up the themes in Toy Story 2 from Toy Story 1, though I guess both films ultimately dealt with feeling underappreciated.

The teaser really didn’t say anything about the film. Was truly a “teaser” trailer…
