Freehead Benefit Concert

Freehead

Cartoonist extraordinaire Jim Smith (Ren & Stimpy, Samurai Jack, The Ripping Friends) will be performing a “farewell concert” with the band Freehead on Saturday, March 31, from 4pm until whenever at Safari Sam’s (5214 W. Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, CA). The concert is for a good cause: to raise money for Freehead band member Richie Hass who is currently fighting multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects plasma cells. Lots of other bands are also performing that evening, and Jim Smith notes on his blog that he will “draw and sign anything that holds still long enough.”

LNG says:

City of Hope is doing some of the most promising multiple myeloma treatment right now. I know two people who are alive today because of that place.

The City of Hope is precisely where Richie is being treated, thank goodness. His doctor, Dr. Stephen Forman, is the Distinguished Chair in Hematology there. Amid has it slightly wrong in the article: Richie will not be directly benefitting from this concert, as it might endanger his application for MediCal. Rather, the two entities which will be splitting the proceeds will be City of Hope and The International Myeloma Foundation.

Thank you, Amid and Jerry, for mentioning this on Cartoon Brew.
