Moonshine – a blog, a book and a gallery show
July 31, 2010 6:00 pm
Animation viz-dev artist Goro Fujita tells us that he and 44 other artists from Dreamworks are having a gallery show at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California, from August 14th through September 6th. The artists include Fujita (art pictured above), Nate Wragg, Christophe Lautrette and Devin Crane. The exhibit will feature personal works of art to be featured in an upcoming group book, Moonshine. There’s an opening reception on Saturday, August 14th, from 7 pm – 11 pm and a closing reception/book signing on Friday, September 3rd, at 7 pm. The group has also started a blog. For more info on the exhibit click here. |
It looks like it will be a good show and the moonshine angle is clever in a way. In addition to the obvious allusion, it might be a play off of Dreamworks’ logo. Just guessing about that though.
Groups shows are great because it is a always nice to see how the various imaginations flow.

Gads, apparently, the pinky on my left hand stutters. It is a shame, I tells ya. There are extra letters in there which just shouldn’t be. Specifically, an extra “s” and an bonus “a.”
It should have read:
Group shows are great because it is always nice to see how the various imaginations flow.
Tony the Tiger would have nailed it.

On the sample image above: I’ll admit while robots don’t get old for most folks and artists of the cartoonist persuasion will continue to render them, I’ve never much dug them in art. I’d offend if I tried to explain why. So, I’ll spare y’all.
However, the context of the butterfly catching image is just such a surprise that it just makes sense to have a robot that serves that purpose. Y’know. Three cheers for whimsy.
Just that one image makes the book a must-buy for me.
Wow, this show should definitely blow some minds! :)
AMAZING line-up of talent… I wonder if Chris Applehans
will be included in the “and more” ?… I hope so!
It’s probably good to add that Disney has done a similar book and is having a gallery show at Nucleus this upcoming Saturday.
