God, this is like the equivalent to a Barney Rubble feature film.

Although it doesn’t sound good at all, I think is good that at least they are focusing in specific characters instead of trying to include the whole cast in a film, like the previous ones.

Marvin the Martian is a great character. The character Marvin the Martian was created by the late Maurice Noble, a truly great and extraordinary artist. The Daily Variety report of the production attributed the creation of Marvin, incorrectly, I believe, to Chuck Jones.

Maybe they’ll make something along the lines of INVADER ZIM.

I at least hope Marvin himself is animated.

Maurice Noble didn’t work on Haredevil Hare–he wasn’t even a member of Chuck’s unit at that point.

Marvin was indeed created by Chuck Jones with Michael Maltese contributing the classic tag lines and the infamous Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

The idea of a Marvin the Martian feature doesn’t scare me half as much as a CHRISTMAS-themed Marvin the Martian feature. Lordy.

Looking at the other Looney Tunes movies and the portfolio of Alcon Entertainment I highly doubt it.

So what are the chances of a new and original animated short film playing before this movie? I’d say slim to none- I doubt anyone involved in the decision to make this movie could be that clever.

That makes me ANGRY. Very angry indeed.

…but, will kids nowadays even know who Marvin is? When was the last time Looney Tunes got decent airtime? (Emphasis on decent.)

Actually, if I were a betting man, I’d guess this is going to be something like “Marvin Steals Christmas” — in which he zaps Santa and has to be shown the spirit of the season by the Looney Tunes gang, the actual stars of the show — and goes direct to DVD.

I am a big fan of Marvin, but he seems like and odd choice. I’m also worried about the Xmas theme cause it could get really sappy and Looney Tunes are not about that. I’m kind of curious in a way, but why can’t they do a whole animated movie instead of throwing some human actors there? Space Jam and Back In Action are not masterpieces but their most offensive stuff is always in the life-action segments.

It’s not only out of character for Marvin, it’s hard to see how any more window dressing can be added to it without feeling like ballast.

Unless the point is that after he’s boxed up, he’s given to some adoring little kid as a toy or pet, at which point his efforts to conquer the world from captivity play as an episode of PINKY, ELMYRA AND THE BRAIN—not coincidentally, another example of WB execs fixing what wasn’t broken and effectively killing interest in a successful brand.
John Paul Cassidy’s Invader ZIM comparison strikes me as the only way to make this project a success, and even then it would feel derivative.

Marvin was always my favorite loony tune, but this cant turn out too well. and Christmas? why? because he’s red and green? come on.

After Space Jam, Back In Action, Loonatics, Baby Looney Tunes, the very existence of Lola Bunny, etc.. I’m just exhausted from being enraged at Warner Bros. Really, I don’t have the energy to be anything fiercer than bemused by this news.

I totally agree with you there. The animated segments are quite entertaining. Too bad this movie won’t be ‘animated’. But I guess all those 3-D models from “Wall-E” have to be used again somewhere so that they can pay for that piece of dredge.

Didn’t anybody at the idea pitching sessions say, “But I don’t WANT to see Marvin rendered in 3-D. He’s fine the way he is.”

I guess you haven’t seen Duck Dodgers in the 3rd Dimension? Daffy, Marvin and K9 were CG for this. 1996.

It DOES provide job’s to animators but that’s a VERY thin silver lining. If would be nice if an animator’s time and creativity could be used for something more likely to succeed.

Marvin the Martian was created by Michael Maltese and Chuck Jones. Chuck Jones directed many of Maltese’s characters. Jones referred to Maltese as his favorite writer. Maltese either created or co-created such characters as Road Runner, Pepe Le Pew, Deputy Dog, Michigan J. Frog and the Duck Dodgers version of Daffy Duck. He wrote many Bugs Bunny cartoons such as the great “What’s Opera Doc?” He was the lead writer who won an academy award for the Pepe Le Pew cartoon “For Scentamental Reasons.” He wrote the song the “Michigan Rag.” Michael Maltese should be a household name like the great Chuck Jones when it comes to the field of animation.
