FEATURE TRAILER: “Asphalt Watches”

Canadian cartoonists Seth Scriver and Shayne Ehman recently finished raising over $10,000 to complete their animated feature Asphalt Watches. They describe their collaborative two-man animated epic in the following way:

If one of their goals was to embrace the art of Flash, they nailed it. But ……. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr those fade-outs that show the symbols transparent over the other grrrrrrrrrrrrr…..
It made my head hurt. I never quite knew where I was supposed to be looking. The still up above is interesting, the concept sounds incredible but the trailer is really hard to watch. Pass.

Entire animated feature and it’s done! Awesome.
Congrats to them for pursuing their dream and getting it funded! Inspirational story, thanks for posting it.
Not bad. I liked the quirky characters and some of the design traits. However I do find the animation a bit to distracting at times and at the end of the day its still a flash animated feature, it lacks the superb fluidity of hand drawn/digital. Although even by flash standards this isn’t that bad. My interest is definitely peaked I shall check this out.

Interesting color choices, but judging by the trailer this may end up being a bit under-written, or at best it’ll be another Twice Upon a Time (if you’re reading George Lucas, re-release that!!).
If you ask me though, the drawings could look a little touching up. As is they look like average MSPaint drawings.
That and “Our style is to turn real-life characters and settings into funny and poetic abstractions that depict the feeling and essence of what happened.” pretty much means “We wanted to share our story through creative visuals”.
Sorry, I’m just not a fan of needlessly wordy buisness-speak.

I like this a lot! It’s exciting to see so many independent animators tasking themselves with feature length films! I think animators like this will save the 2D medium, show some support!
