New Despicable Me trailer

The first teaser was encouraging. This new trailer has lowered my enthusiasm. But I’m not one to judge a film by its previews. I’d like to know what you think. |

I think this trailer looks awesome. Animation is terrific. I liked the first one a lot, but this one is as good or better. Although anything seems good compared to the How To Train Your Dragon trailer…
Maybe I lack a sense about these kinds of things, but this trailer still has me intrigued. I love Gru’s nerdy nastiness, as well as Vector’s dorky arrogance. Gru’s voice is working very nicely for me as well. So are the gags, though perhaps they are a little predictable (called the balloon-popping, but not the revenge later on.) The plot of the movie is missing, but at this point, I’m still looking forward to this movie.
I love that kind of mechanical booby trap fun, a la spy vs. spy and rube goldberg and my favorite dare devil issue. but it’s a little… off… in this movie… and I can’t figure out why
The animation doesn’t have the same snappiness as in the initial trailer, but I really like the premise. We’ll see how this turns out.
I don’t know, it still looks really good to me. The one thing that bugs me is Steve Carell voicing the main character. He just did a leading voice in an animated film – Horton Hears a Who. Besides, it just feels like a random voice tacked on to the character that doesn’t necessarily fit. But at least he’s famous, right? That should sell a few more tickets.
Anyway, I’m still really looking forward to this.
I really like the chracter designs and the look and feel of he movie so far has me intrigued to see more. This trailer seems to have very little in common with the first one, not even the same characters were in them. I like that I havn’t figured out the entire plot and I really really like the absence of any obnoxious talking animal characters, bodily humor jokes, and stereotypical ethnic characters. I’m willing to give this one a try.
Steve Carell doesn’t seem as random a choice when you remember he was ALSO in another CGI film Chris worked on. …that could be better or worse, depending on how you look at it.
For me, the trailer only makes me question further the intent of the film. Is there a purpose? Who is it marketed toward?
I really really like how this looks so far. The main character reminds me a bit of Oswald Cobblepot.
And I laughed quite hard at that shark bit. That was completely unexpected.
If this movie is full of bizarre sight gags like we’ve seen in this trailer and the last one, I think I’m going to enjoy it heartily.
I know this sounds weird – but I like it too…
Was the name “Gru” in any way derived from the comic book series Groo The Wanderer? Of course, this movie and Groo don’t appear to have any similarities, so it’s probably a coincidence. Interestingly enough, there’s supposed to also be a Groo animated movie in the works.
It looks interesting to me, though I didn’t care for most of the music in this trailer (which may not even be in the movie at all) or the attitude displayed in the poses of the kids toward the end. (I dislike cartoon kids with attitude.) As long as these things aren’t symptoms of the norm in the rest of the movie, I’ll be happy. Hopefully the story and characters will override these minor complaints.

I too am very intrigued. The gags had me laughing, and the voice work is fine. I find it interesting (to me at least) that Vector bears more than a passing comedic resemblance to a younger Bill Gates, the wealthy gadget guy who seems to always get the best of Gru. who may, by virtue of his three-letter name, be confused with the “Mac” that Gates always seemed to be trying to out-do.
But then again I always read way too much into these things…
This trailer actually sells the movie for me more than the other.
I like the idea of villains vs. villains….if I’m reading it correctly!?
I actually disagree with you Jerry, the trailer made me more interested than the teaser…now that I have an idea of what’s going to happen. We’ll just have to see what is brought to the table.
Feels like a different movie than the teaser, but still good if you ask me.
And the fun part is that everything in this trailer is likely taken from just ONE scene. I know I like the looks of this one.
I think its all very nicely done…however, the way the characters act sort of irritates me. (for lack of a less negative word) They don’t really act at all in my opinion. They all sort of go “UHoh” and “hehehe” and “youwe got ta be kieddienk me”. I know its only the trailer, but I suspect I wouldnt be interested for lets say 80 minutes.

Fun, seemingly-original plot NOT involving talking animals? Check.
Great animation? Check.
Trailer NOT involving cheesy narration and plot-spoiling shots? Check.
Directed by Pierre Coffin?? CHECK!!!!

I don’t know…I also thought the previous teaser looked a little better. There are interesting things here but it seems a little off, yes…like it’s not funny or snappy enough.
It’s still not very clear what the plot of the movie is, so at least it’s intriguing
Honestly? I was intrigued with the first teaser and I still am after watching this trailer.

The trailer itself is typical Hollywood bombast geared for the ADHD set. The animation and main character designs look decent, though the art direction is confusing. Why have a hyper-realistic suburbia when your characters are so stylized? Looks promising though… here’s hoping!
This new trailer doesn’t really shed any more on light on the actual plot of the film (unlike How to Train Your Dragon, which is like watching an abridged version of said movie), so I’m still neutral on the whole thing. It looks nice, though.
Mind you, the gigantic list of celebrity voices at the very end was kind of tiring. I mean, really? You need ALL of those guys?
I like this trailer, but I still don’t understand just where this film is going. Story wise.
Lets hope it doesn’t fall short.
Because I REALLY like this trailer.
This is the same guy who ripped off Pixar’s “For the Birds.” The film looks very “sassy,” not a good thing. I’m not sure a 90 minute road runner cartoon is gonna work.
This trailer isn’t as good as the first and I’m a bit concerned that they have to cram every celebrity actor name into this trailer as well.
Also, I did some searching online and I did find several places that talked about the overall plot of the film. I won’t spoil it here, but I will say that I was not encouraged by what I read. The trailers are intriguing and exciting, but the plot line I read sounded very typical and positioned to please very young children.
This trailer would lower my enthusiasm only because it doesn’t seem to give much insight into the story yet, but I’m still pretty excited about this one. It’s actually a well done trailer, I was afraid it would be another parade of cliche’s that Hollywood so loves to show in previews. I think it was wise to only showcase the conflict between these two characters, and just a handful of gags…and I’m fairly sure this won’t be the premise of the entire film, so I’m not worried.
I personally prefer a trailer not giving away the entire film (c’mon, I wanna see the whole film when I get to the theater!), and yeah, I was put off by the obnoxious celebrity list as well. Too bad those who want so bad to follow in Walt’s leading footsteps in the industry don’t credit their artists above and beyond the voice acting like he did.
@Scott : Check your facts. If you are referring to Coffin’s penguin stuff and his Vizzavi commercials were done prior to For the Birds. I’m not saying Pixar stole the ideas by the way :)
I agree: this trailer is not as interesting to me as the initial teaser. Though the teaser didn’t really get across what the story of the film would be, it was intriguing enough that I wanted to see more. I like the first bit of this trailer, establishing Gru’s nastiness credentials. But after that, it just became a bunch of too-similar gags without enough context. I kind of have of vague sense of why Gru is trying to get into Vector’s base, but not enough that it’s interesting. It felt like I was watching the middle part of a short cartoon and I don’t mean that in a good way. I don’t need to see the whole movie spelled out for me in the trailer, but I would like to know that it’s about something other than one guy trying to get into a building and another guy who stops him.

anyone notice the Nintendo Wii?
It looks like Laurent de la Chapelle, the animation supervisor for “Despicable Me” is doing a great job with an incredibly talented crew.
Bravo to all involved!
Visually nice, but characters are pretty bland. This trailer makes me wanna go see it even less! And i STILL HATE that little “rap” at the end….”o-ah dispicable me” GAHHH!!! Yes, it’s something that will get stuck in your head, but that doesn’t mean it’s good or that when it gets stuck in your head you’ll like it!

Glad to see that I’m not alone on this. How many times do you see nicely stylized characters but almost photo real environments?
By the way, I cant hear that music in the opening without thinking of that SNL skit where the coach dances to it, and uses it to inspire the team.
For me that music will always be “Casino Royal” with David Niven. :)

I would be interested in what you think it lacked, Jerry. I found it a fun preview by way of short-short narrative. The animation looks ace, the style vs. realism thing didn’t bother me in the least. I’d have preferred a little more pop in the characters, but as far as the story goes, it actually does engage me. Spy vs. Spy, except Villain vs. Villain? Sounds like fun to me.
I think this is going to be a refreshingly different CGI movie
