‘Teen Titans Go! To The Movies’ Trailer Entertains With A 20-Second Fart Joke

A lot of trailers for American animated features include a fart gag, but Teen Titans Go! To The Movies is raising the bar for farting in American animation with an intestinal relief gag that lasts a full 20 seconds, nearly 25% of the teaser trailer’s length.

The official Warner Bros. synopsis, which claims the film will be “gleefully clever” and “kid-appropriately crass,” revolves around Robin trying to get the attention of a Hollywood film director so the Teen Titans can become movie stars like all the other superheroes:

With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously Super-Villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!

The film is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Peter Rida Michail, from a screenplay by Michael Jelenic and Horvath. Michail, Will Arnett, Jed Weitzman, and Peggy Regan are producing, with Sam Register, Jelenic, and Horvath serving as executive producers. Apart from Arnett and Weitzman, all are Teen Titans Go! series contributors.

The voices of the characters in the movie will be the same as those in the series – Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Scott Menville (Robin), Khary Payton (Cyborg), Tara Strong (Raven), and Hynden Walch (Starfire). Additionally, Will Arnett and Kristen Bell provide voices.

Warner Bros. will release the film in the United States on July 27, 2018.

  • Pedro Nakama

Is this feature going to be animated in Flash/Adobe Animate?

  • Sharkey Shyster

Wait a minute! Did they steal the fart joke I put in my Thanksgiving short years ago?

    • Gagaman

If the same lines of dialogue followed in your animation yeah it’d be a steal, but really this is more of a coincidence as a balloon/float that pops and farts is hardly a unique idea, sorry.

  • ToonBoom_Animator

I’m so excited for this. The “cartoon fan” meltdown is going to be epic. I hope it makes a boatload of money!

  • Jonathon Asuna Leafa Richards

the trailer makes the film look horrible

  • Dave 52

Guess what? I don’t hate Teen Titans Go. The show for me is a mixed bag. Sometimes it can be very funny and clever and also do some good satire. Other times it’s not. This movie could go either way honestly. Maybe this can be like Sponge Out of Water where it’s just a wild and fun ride with a lot humor or like The LEGO Batman Movie where it’s essentially a parody and satire of itself, it’s genre, and it’s franchise.

  • Gagaman

Amazing how identical to the show it looks. The budget for this must of been…pretty small? Seeing as they seem to be using the same assets and all. Even that My Little Pony movie looked like a bit of an upgrade over the TV series in comparison.

    • Dave 52

Visually, it is an upgrade from the TV show. The backgrounds are a lot more detailed and the characters are shaded a bit more. It may not be as fluid as My Little Pony or as expressive as SpongeBob, but It still looks decent.

  • Ryan Cullen

I had a mixed reaction to the trailer. I like the commentary on the DC Cinematic Universe, but the fart gag was a bit too predictable.

    • Erich Frankenbury

I think the fart gag was supposed to be predictable.

  • Fluffydips

Honestly Teen Titans Go is brilliant in this odd way. It knows what it is and it knows the situation it is in, and they really could give less than a shit. It’s going to be two hours of ironic animation and superhero bashing and it’s going to be glorious. Can’t wait.

  • Fried

Hey! Did you know kids laugh at toilet humor? Hopefully you should be, you’ve been covering kids cartoons long enough to know how popular it is.

  • ToonBoom_Animator

It’s pretty hilarious, the “fans” hate the show but still watch it and contribute to its success. They’ll probably see the movie too and then complain that it’s making too much money haha!

  • Fried

“it soils the memory of the original Teen Titans show”
And the thing that baffles me is that the original show completely anime-ized the comic and in terms of humor and tone, was a big departure from the comics. Yet, the fans of the show don’t see the irony of loving a show that was a “bastardization” (And I say that jokingly) to begin with while hating a show that is a “bastardization” of the same project.

  • J.M. Walker

The hate the series get is due to blind nostalgia.

    • Mary

I know. I grew up watching the original series.

  • JodyMorgan

Well, it’s not up there with the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles, but it’s better than most fart jokes. As for the rest of the trailer, it’s… better than I expected, really. Still not planning on seeing it, but I’m not insulted by its very existence, either.

  • fernandão da mecanica

saw the fart gag like a satire – so subtle that it’s almost like the ones made by paul verhoeven – aimed exactly at the theatrical american kid-targeted animated movie. The duration of it, plus the dialogue that follows are proof of that

considering the show satirizes everything to which it’s related, I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie was used to make fun of the typical comedy animated movie that hollywood commits every year

  • Mr.Anonymous

I got over that stuff a year or two ago & I admit that I do like the earlier seasons. The only times I don’t really like TTG are when it does episodes to lash back at the critics/haters such as “The Return of Slade” because they feel too mean-spirited, as well as how Cartoon Network airs it too much on TV.

  • MovieChris

While DC leaves much to be desired in live-action, their superhero animation projects are uncontested. Though I can’t say TTG is my favorite, this trailer provided a lot of clever jabs at themselves as a company and show that made me chuckle. May have to see this one.

  • Jose Correa

I’m quite scared of how its potshot jokes will be like.
