I’ll bet there’s no way this film could hold a candle to the venerable “What’s Up: Balloon to the Rescue.”

At first glance, I thought you were hyping the new PRINCESS AND THE FROG Little Golden Book…

Eeeek. I pushed the zoom button. Instead of just showing me a bigger picture, it was an animated zoom in. It looked like Not Tiana (Notiana for short) was going to eat me.

How come it is called the Frog Prince, but says not every frog is a prince? Does she go kissing a hundred frogs, like the little girl in the Disney movie wanted to do?

I remember when someone showed a Pocahontas rip off when I was young and I kept my eyes off it for the entire showing.

As someone who’s worked on his share of ‘knock-offs’ (though, never for GoodTimes Home Video, at least) .. I can only shrug and say, “Eh. It’s a living.”

Faced with a choice of getting paid for an honest 50 hours of work per week, or of getting nothing for nothing .. I’d imagine most would choose the former.

Maybe it’s better than the current Disney version.

I’m surprised Disney hasn’t bothered to sue Goodtimes for copyright infringement. Granted, the majority of Disney features are based off of fairy tales, and folk lore, this, along with most of pixr’s films are fairly original.

Does this DVD show the ‘Chinese ripoff of Presto’ short film before the Frog Prince movie starts?

A few years ago, Disney was knocking off itself. They haven’t exactly set the right example. This is what you get when, “business is business.”

Once I met a guy from Madagascar (Yes!) who worked in these films. They were produced in India mostly.

A really sharp move would be to re-release the African themed Frog Prince episode of the old HBO animated series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child. It’s even directed by Bruce Smith!

I’m under no allusions that the rest of the film looks like the cover of the DVD, but this looks in many ways better than the film. The frog looks and feels like a frog, and the princess looks unabashedly like a cartoon. The Disney movie looks like something shredded through multiple marketing committees, and has weird characterless animation.

My prediction is that the Tianna rip-off would be more racist than the early designs for the character before Disney responded to negative feedback.

The artwork is actually not too bad! Normally the super hideous artwork of the past gave away the fact that it was a rip off. Good idea..up the cover art and really fool ‘em!

One cynical residual effect of the Princess and the Frog theatrical release I’d welcome would be a DVD release of Jim Henson’s “The Frog Prince”… it seems lost in limbo right now.

They gloss the covers up in photoshop to make them look better,it’s probably a poorly tweened flash cartoon like Iain posted.

The title is, unfortunately, catchier than Disney’s. Just sayin’.

Jim Henson’s “The Frog Prince” is amazing! That and “Hey Cinderella!” that they did in the early 1970’s would make a great DVD together! Disney are you listening?

For a company so aggressive about recycling, Disney will sometimes miss or ignore obvious opportunities. Their old Zorro episodes — or even the pasteup feature versions — certainly would have racked up sales when the two big movies came out; and even Condorman might have recouped some of its investment on the coattails of any major comic book movie.

One of the Muppet Show season sets included an ancient B&W special they did for educational television, so there is hope for the more polished and marketable fairy tales.

Wow, some harsh comments about Disney’s upcoming “return to 2D”. But I have to admit that I, too, have my reservations…the animation I’ve seen for the film is smooth but soulless. The humor seems too “cute”. And as for the fart jokes…no, those AREN’T for little girls. They’re for BOYS! Because we’re all PIGS! Didn’t you know????

I also think changing the name of the film from “The Frog Princess” to “The Princess and the Frog” was a truly stupid, lameass move. Political correctness taken to the nth degree. Betcha if “Lady and the Tramp” were made today, the Disney suits would change it to “Lady and the Homeless Person” or something…

I’m not surprised in the slightest; it was only a matter of time before Disney’s latest “OMG MUST SEE” (other than what Pixar’s done, that’s what Video Brinquedo is for) got an awful, straight-to-DVD knock-off. And look, they didn’t even bother giving the main character a somewhat-decent-looking design; bad hair, creepy smile, bright yellow dress… just… what?

It’s because today the Disney executives are greedy money makers. That’s why! And their back to hand-drawn animations will not here for longtime.

If i want to see a Disney movie these days, i will pick from the real Walt Disney era (1936-1966) and not the imitations we have since many years yet. It’s incredible how his succession forced this industry to released rip-offs from his own films and observation. Sorry but it’s like that!

Come to think of, “The Princess and the Frog” would’ve been a useful title. “The Frog Prince” kind of signals the ending, although most people know how the story will go anyway.” If not for the trailer revealing that the Princess get to spend time in amphibian form (no similarity to “Sword in the Stone” or “Brother Bear” or “Emperor’s New Groove” here!), that plot point would have been a bit more of a surprise.

Can we just stop Amazon.com from offering a package discount for people buying “Up” and “The Frog Prince” together?

I would love to see Jim Henson’s 1971 Frog Prince on DVD. In fact I’d love to see any new Muppet releases. I know they are making “The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever”. Does anyone know when we should expect that? Or any more season sets of the Muppet Show?

The Princess and the Frog wasnt made by money grabbing exec, but by committed animation artists, who love and respect the artform of hand drawn animation. the E.D. Baker book is credited, since the idea that she turns into a frog after the kiss, originates in that book. The rest is an original story that incorporates several ideas that were developed at Disney. Most people who love to rag on the movie would chew off their left nut to work on a disney feature.

It’s horrible, trust me. I’ve seen it.
The horrible CG of classics such as Little Bee and Little Cars is replaced with horrible Flash animations. The same backgrounds are re-used over and over. Also, just like the other movies, it’s all talk. The whole movie is just WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS. Also, look for an old man who obviously looks like Eustace from Courage the Cowardly Dog. Spoilers: He’s the best character in the movie.
