The final PEANUTS special…

Courtesy of Benny & Rafi Fine and the animators at TwoAnimators we finally get a glimpse of what will happen to Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang when they begin to grow up.

  • That. Kills.

  • Clint H.

    Wow…dark. But pretty good!

  • Chris Sobieniak

    I KNEW IT!

  • Not quite as elegant as the Jihadist Christmas special, I’m afraid.

  • what_in_the_cel

Cute idea. The ending with snoopy and the song were both lifted straight off of Futurama’s Jurassic Bark episode though.

    • Ergo

That wasn’t lifted. That was an obvious homage.

    • crinkle

It was completely obvious to me that it was an HOMAGE to Futurama. The Fine Brothers are obviously Futurama lovers!!!

  • Trevor

Oddly enough, there is an ACTUAL new peanuts special coming out this november

  • Justin Delbert

I really enjoyed that clip except for one thing; the end with Snoopy tends to remind me of that one Futurama episode I hated known as Jurassic Bark (which was before mentioned by what in the cell). So I guess Charlie Brown never got the Little Red Haired Girl to like her:(
Oh, by the way, here are 6 ways Charles Schulz really was Charlie Brown:

    • joecab

You hated Jurassic Bark, but it’s got to be in most people’s Top 10 Futurama episodes.

    • Funkybat

“Jurassic Bark” was a great episode, but I don’t know if I’d put it in a “top ten.” I think a lot of people don’t like it because the melancholy ending doesn’t exactly leave one feeling great. It’s poignant as hell, but not everyone can “enjoy” poignancy, and I can see how a story like that could cause some people to actually hate it. I don’t hate “Jurassic Bark,” but for poignancy, I prefer “Luck of the Fryrish.” Maybe it’s because I’m a cat person…

  • Despite it being too adult, I found it clever how they compare it to how the grownups are portrayed.

I’m glad they used the design of the little red-haired girl from the special, “It’s Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown.”

  • Toonio

Next episode: You watch too much porno Charlie Brown!

  • DB

That was amusing and captures the look of the animated specials quite well.

It brings me back to thinking about how interestingly hard it is to draw Charlie Brown like his creator did, even though it SEEMS like it should be easy. The specials (nor this) really never got him ‘right’ to me and it would almost be weird to see him animated ‘perfectly’.

  • James Fox

    They Killed Snoopy
    GOD NO! O.O

  • haha, brilliant take on the laws of Peanuts! Lovely done, too.

  • Keith Paynter

Wah, wah wah-wah, wah wah wah-wahhhhhhh~

  • Anthrocoon

Not bad, but not the first time something was done with Peanuts characters moving on to adulthood. One episode of Family Guy had a re-union of the characters, all adults but still looking much like before (and Snoopy is long dead, C.B.’s an alcoholic, etc.)

    • Chris Sobieniak

It you want to go farther back, I’m reminded of a an issue of Cracked back in the early 90’s that came up with a page about Peanut specials that were never made or something and one of them was about Charlie Brown going through puberty as you see a lanky Brown in a school hallway staring at a busty Lucy Van Pelt walking by.

    • if you think this is dark, you should track down a spec script that was making the rounds several years back called BLOCKHEAD. It had the gang all living in Manhattan and in their mid-20s. Really dark and biting.

      • Chris Sobieniak

I think there’s also the play “Dog Meets God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” as well that deserves checking out I’m told.

  • I didn’t think it was funny. Family Guy’s Peanuts parodies are funnier than this.

  • Pork-O-Matic

I thought it was pretty funny but went on for too long, the joke was funny but they over did it. and the homage to Futurama at the end seemed completely out of place. ALSO, FAMILY GUY SUCKS! Just thought I’d say that.

  • Andrew KIeswetter

Great stuff! I knew they’d have C.B. and the others talk like the adults in the specials (mwah, mwah mwah!). I’m also happy that the Little Red-Haired GIrl looked the way she did as in ‘It’s Your First Kiss Charlie Brown.’ However, we DID see adults in specials like ‘Is This Goodbye,Charlie Brown?’,and the movie ‘Bon Voyage Charlie Brown (and Don’t Come Back!)’. Poor Snoopy.

  • BRING ME THE HEAD OF CHARLIE BROWN remains my all-time favorite Peanuts parody, but this wasn’t bad! The blooper reel for this video was pretty funny.
