The controversy over California’s Proposition 8 is nothing compared to one Japanese fanboy’s campaign to marry cartoon characters. To be specific, this is aimed more toward winning a manga girl, not an anime babe. A coo-coo otaku named Taichi Takashita has launched an online petition which he plans to present to his government to establish a law on marriages with cartoon characters. Within a week he has gathered more than 1,000 signatures through the Internet.

As a Comic Con veteran of over 30 years, none of this surprises me. If anything, I’m surprised how many news sources have posted this story.

(Thanks, Lev Polyakov)

I’d offer to marry Olive Oyl but I don’t think I could stand up to the abuse from her other two suitors.

…I call dibs on Natasha Fatale, although I hear Smurfette is going to file alimony against Jerry *and* Amid!

Just imagine the court cases people will have over who get’s Rei Ayaname. I wouldn’ be surprised if it degrades to arena battle with the winniner being awarded “matrimony” to their chosen character.

As a furry myself, I hate to bring up one of these bizarre stories. But this one is totally relevant: http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/show/wedding
Um, just don’t judge the rest of us by this one guy, ok?

Oh, go ahead and judge us. We’re nutty that way. o_O

(I’ll take Red Hot Riding Hood, thankyouverymuch.)

Emperor Tomato Catsup says:

I can’t help but be creeped out a little whenever I hear anyone say that they’re more comfortable in the “two-dimensional world” since, IIRC, the guy who went on a killing spree in Akihabara a few months ago had written something very similar in a journal. Is this preference for the “two-dimensional world” simply a desire to live in a less complex “black and white” world, or is there something more to it?

I want to marry Road Runner and live with him in the southern West desert in a little house with lots of cactuses and love…and of course or children will run outside the road…but I’ll always be worry for the Coyote, who’ll try to destroy our Happiness…nooo!! *crying for the desperation*

It shouldn’t be limited to just cartoon characters. It should be fictional characters in general. I want to marry Padme Amidala.

That fanboy is equating love with obsession. This is beyond mixing fantasy and reality. He will have hard time saying “hi, meet my cartoon wife” to his family and coworkers.

There’s no doubt - it’s Jessica Rabbit for me.
