Google Celebrates Gumby Creator Art Clokey’s Birthday

Google Gumby

It’s unlikely that you’ll miss this, but for the sake of posterity, let us note that Google’s homepage is celebrating the birth of Gumby and Davey and Goliath creator Art Clokey. Clokey, who passed away last year, would have been 90 years old today.

(Thanks to all who emailed us about this.)

I just saw it on Google’s Homepage and it was amazing and fun. I loved watching Gumby as a kid.

    Happy Birthday, Art Clokey.

I definitely cried the day he died (and took pictures of the sad blockhead).

Art did a guest appearance at a theater I managed. I got to have dinner with him and Gloria. Fabulous night, playing with the new face toy he was inventing and laughing nonstop!
His contribution was larger than many realize.

Thoroughly enjoy GUMBY on so many levels–recalling visuals as surreal as they are, enjoying those original music cues that are so often sampled on shows of that era and the strange stories, especially in the earliest “adventures”. Now, let’s really celebrate Art Clokey’s legacy and release the entire GUMBY series, as restored as possible, on DVD, okay?
