After years of producing teen-targeted shows like Happy Tree Friends and Dick Figures, Mondo Media is eyeing the lucrative kids’ market by teaming up with major toy manufacturer Spin Master, makers of Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Air Hogs, and Hedbanz. The two companies have formed SpindoTV, a YouTube channel geared towards kids age 6-11.

Scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2015, Spindo will offer both animated and live-action series based on Spin Master’s toys, as well as draw upon content created for Mondo’s MCN (its curated network of animation channels on YouTube).

Mondo Media will also offer shows produced by third-party independent creators. They are currently soliciting pitches from content producers at spindo.mondomedia.com. “We’re open to shows that have toy potential, and to series that don’t,” Aaron Simpson, Mondo Media v-p of animation and business development, told Kidscreen. “A property may have toy DNA when it somehow empowers the audience to be greater than they already are, or helps them display a skill they possess. Or when the show allows kids to relive their fantasies, or perhaps live in a fantasy they themselves create.”
