As part of Nickelodeon Animation’s ongoing effort to rebrand itself as a champion of artist-driven projects, the studio announced today that it has teamed up with the website LoopDeLoop.

The Australian animation site, founded in 2011 by Neil Sanders, is known for hosting a bi-monthly animation challenge that invites animators to submit looping animation based around a theme, and then screens the results in front of a live audience.

After the completion of the current challenge, which is centered around the theme of “childhood,” Nickelodeon will host the live screening event at its Burbank studio on October 3rd. Nickelodeon is touting this as the “first network sponsorship for [a] program run by artists for artists.” At the screening, two winners will be selected: a “Local Hero,” voted by the audience, as well as the “International Loop Hero,” voted on by industry judges. For more information on submitting to the current competition, visit LoopDeLoop’s submission page.
