Stop-Motion John Lasseter Competes in “Shirt-Off” in “Friendship All-Stars”

Friendship All-Stars of Friendship is a new stop-motion webseries created by Harry Chaskin, Dan Lippert and Justin Michael and executive produced by Robot Chicken’s Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner.

Created for the Lexus-backed L/Studio.com, each biweekly episode focuses on a kooky pair-up of celebrities as wacky neighbors and odd couple-style roommates. The latest episode, featuring a sartorial competition between Disney-Pixar’s CCO John Lasseter and character actor Luis Guzman was, according to Chaskin, inspired by an article discovered right here on Cartoon Brew!

That… Was not funny. The Brad Bird got a chuckle, but it seemed like a lot of missed opportunities.

Without a doubt one of the dumbest things I’ve seen in a long time. Given that it’s Seth Greens brand of “humor”, I’m not surprised. The animation was nice, though.

This whole celebrity parody schtick is tired. Plus, this looks like an 8 year old made it. There’s an irony here with poor animation aesthetic and Lasseter a champion of quality. Many yawns and mehs. Hope Lexus isn’t spending a lot of money on these.

I liked it. Smiled a few times. Not something I would watch regularly, but it was entertaining.

  • Mike

Painfully unfunny, and they certainly could have done a better job caricaturing John Lasseter’s appearance..

    • Couldn’t Agree More

Perhaps if it were carved out of Spam and left out in the rain.

Something tells me John Lasseter’s real place is a bit nicer than some dingy apartment.

  • CG Animator

The animation is nicely done (love stop motion!) but the humor is just dumb and mean spirited to me.

Si no me dicen que ESO es John Lasseter, no lo reconocería, ni siquiera por sus camisas estampadas. Pon un par de ideas idiotas llevas al límite, y tendrás tu serie animada, he dicho.
If you do not say first that THAT is John Lasseter, I wouldn’t recognize him, even by their shirts. Quote: put a couple of idiotic ideas, take them to the limit, and you have your animated series. Unquote.

I’m not a big fan of Lasseter and this was horrible.

  • Arnold

I think lots of people are missing the point of some light hearted fun animation, but I suppose its their loss.
