“Enchanted by a pixie, a child called Yorick enters a magical kingdom, but when Yorick returns he finds his world ravaged by time.”

Another nice music video by Giles Timms, this time set in a hand drawn pen and ink world inspired by Edward Gorey and animated in a cut-out style. Compositing and animation in After Effects. Produced at the Animation Workshop at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. The track, Dead All Along, is performed by Ceri Frost.

Excellent style of animation and drawing. I love all the little creatures! The tune is really catchy too! Reminds me a bit of the Beatles. Well done.

Damn fairies never bother to explain that time shift to you when they lure you into their realm ;)

My only quibble is with the backgrounds for the credits (opening and closing). Too headache-inducing.

If this is a commercial venture and UCLA’s facilities were used, how does it work financially? Does Giles Timms get free tuition in exchange for bringing in a few dollars? Did a few dollars indeed get brought in? Or did the band and label score some cheap labor from the arrangement?

What an amusing ending: and they all died happily ever after!

Thanks for all the comments and feedback :)

@Merv – Thanks for your comment. This was not a commercial venture, simply a collaboration between a musician (Ceri Frost) and an animator (myself). I have a passion and interest in animated music videos and wanted to make an animated music video as part of my graduate course work, hence the collaboration and film. I worked entirely on my own on the video with input from my mentors, peers and instructors at UCLA, namely Celia Mercer and Bill Barminski. UCLA, nor myself benefit in any way financially from this endeavor (though I wish I could have had free tuition :) – this is simply a labor of love.

Also Merv – I know it sounds like a band, but I’m actually just one guy and I currently represent myself. No record label has benefited financially from this either! Though the song should be available on itunes in November.
