Dry Fish

This is one of those “love it or hate it” experimental pieces. London based designer/director Andy Martin has just completed a new animated short called Dry Fish. Martin details his thought process on his blog:

“Sometime you find yourself in a place that you just can’t explain and quite often it can be a little bit worrying. This animated short tells of one such occasion as our hero tries to express his feelings in the only way he can…via the medium of song.”

Loved it. Couldn’t understand the lyrics though – but that’s okay.

  • This just put a big smile on my face.

I actually liked it. It could have been weirder, though.

    it was ok

  • Emily

    I liked it.

    hate it

  • I liked it.

I’m going to say it’s Toejam and Earl meets Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555.

  • i enjoyed this little animation moment very much!

  • Liked it! The music really adds to the piece, and it’s sweet and simple but fun overall. I like how all the animation looks like it was from Andy’s “mini” animations he did straight in his sketchbook, and then just put them all together here (via his Vimeo page…he’s got several movies of them).

  • Loved it. Nice use of cycling animations and a lovely, whimsical design (though obviously influenced by Dr Seuss).

It’s interesting how modern day software allows everyone to incorporate multipane shots so easily now!

Charming and funny, and I really fell for the parallax effect. Surprises me that I haven’t seen it done more in animation, since the nature of animation lends itself easily to creating this effect.

  • The repetition of so many small elements gives it a (probably unintended) static quality.

It won me over. Liked it!

loved it!…. both the animation and song.
